2 out of 5 stars If you need an extra remote, this might be a good buy, otherwise ...   February 27, 2007

My opinion is influenced by the overall quality of Wii Sports (though I wish the baseball game would last longer than 3 innings and boxing would go longer than 3 rounds), but Wii Play was really a disappointment. The only games I found of personal interest was 9 Ball and the Tank game (to a lessor extent). Ping Pong can probably be a bit of a challenge, but it doesn't really operate in the manner that a real ping pong game would (as far as I can tell, you can never 'beat' the computer).
I'm sure some of the other games will have some appeal to other individuals (the target shooting game will probably be the next most appealing game), but overall I can't help but feel Wii Play is a waste of time.
It was worth the purchase to get the extra controller and have access to the 9-ball game, but JUST barely.
Seriously ... don't be skeptical of these reviews that are critical of this game. Unless you are buying the game for a very young child (who might enjoy the cow race or the bubble thing), then you're probably better off just skipping it (with the exception being if you desperately need an extra controller).

3 out of 5 stars Great Buy!   February 26, 2007

The games on Wii Play are tons of fun AND you get a FREE Wii remote! Almost all of the games are loads of fun and get even better when you play with multiple people. The negative side to Wii Play is its lack of customization features. Just like Wii Sports, many of the games should have options to modify game play, such as Pool. In pool, you are forced to play 9-Ball, which I have never seen anyone play. I think the game should allow the player to choose which rules they want to play by. Also, the Duck Hunt game is the EXACT same every time you play it and you can't change how long it lasts (it's super short).
Overall, Wii Play is a great game to pick up and play with buddies for an hour or so while you drink a beer or two. Also, the game comes with a free Wii remote. Wii Play shows off the Wii's potential in awesome gameplay but comes up short in allowing real gamers the opportunity to have some real fun.

5 out of 5 stars Bad Reviewers: Have you really played it?!   February 25, 2007

I don't really see what all the complaints are about... this game is a STEAL for the extra $10. If you're like me and don't need the extra remote, then buy it, keep the game, and sell the remote! We have entertained ourselves for hours trying to earn Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platnium medals in all the different categories. I love the pool game and can't wait for someone else to release a full version! The tank game is really really fun. Fishing is good. The "Where's Waldo" version of Find Mii is super fun especially with 1 or more people helping you! The shooting game is fast, but fun. The laser hockey is frustratingly fun! The bubble game hurts my wrist, but is also very fast-paced and exciting. Table Tennis is much better than some of the reviews have give it credit for... it's more challenging than it looks... I still haven't got 100 volleys! There's even a racing game... on cows! True, none of these games have the dept of Zelda, but they are fun and entertaining AND will help hone your Wiimote skills! It's definitely worth $30, if you can pick it up for that. If you need the remote, then you're in business since it's $40 by itself! If not, sell it and keep the game! Side Note for Online Wii Users: The New "Everybody Votes Channel" is now available for FREE download! It's a little cheezy, but should be pretty cool once it's up and running for a while! Wii enjoy it as well as Wii Play!

3 out of 5 stars It's Basically Another Tech Demo   February 22, 2007

Wii Sports was a marvelous way to show people what the Wii could do. Wii Sports is also a fairly addictive game that just about anyone can pick up and play. Wii Play is somewhat like Wii Sports. It's basically another game to give you a preview of what the Wii can do. Unlike Wii Sports, however, the games aren't nearly as good and they aren't as memorable. Part of what made Wii Sports so great was its simplistic, yet involving, gameplay. Wii Play doesn't make you feel nearly as involved as Wii Sports does. To its credit, however, it does come with a Wii Remote packaged inside, but if you really really loved Wii Sports, you're definitely going to be let down Wii Play.

There are nine games in Wii Play. One is very similar to Duck Hunt in that you have to use the Wii Remote as a gun and shoot things. Fairly simple, but it leaves an empty feeling in you. Another game involves you having to find certain Mii's (imagine Where's Waldo). There's Table Tennis, a game where you pop bubbles, billiards, laser hockey, fishing, some game where you ride a cow and Tanks. With Nine games you're bound to find something good, but Laser Hockey may very well be the best of the lot.

None of the games are really that bad, they're just not as involving or as fun as Wii Sports, nor can they hit that level of addiction that Wii Sports gives you. Which is why I say that if you really do love Wii Sports, then Wii Play is a let down. You get a Wii Remote packed in with the game, though, so it's almost like buying the game itself for ten dollars. Sadly, the Wii Remote alone may be the reason to buy this seeing as how as this review is being written, Wii Remotes in your local retail store are still pretty hard to come by.

None of the games are horrible, but none of them have any lasting appeal. You'll grow bored with most of them after a couple of plays. It's not bad, but we've already been exposed to what the Wii can do, and I don't think most people need a second tutorial.

3 out of 5 stars Not bad, but only get it if you need another remote.   February 22, 2007

Wii Play, as the description states, is a collection of mini-games bundled with another Wii remote control. For only $10 more than a remote on its own, it is a pretty good deal.

The games are simple, and mostly there to instruct the user on ways in which the remote can be used.

1. Shooting Range: Pretty fun, and shows the potential for future "Duck Hunt" style games, but unfortunately is too short. 2 player on this one is pretty fun.
2. Billiards: Cool, but the controls are difficult.
3, Cow Racing (Charge!): Silly, but my 2 year-old son laughs hysterically when me and my wife race against each other, so I guess that's good for $10.
4. PingPong: Too difficult to control acurately.
5. Laser hockey: Boring.
6. Find the Miis: Pretty decent brain-teaser type of game, again more fun with 2 players.
7. Tanks: Fun, in an atari 2600 "Combat" style. (That's not a bad thing... "Combat" was a sweet game, as anyone over age 35 will recall)
8. Fishing: Super lame.
9. Pose Mii: OK. Again, our 2 year-old loves to watch us play it, but otherwise it loses its fun pretty quickly.
All in all, not a bad use of the $10 extra, but if you don't need any more controllers, it isn't worth getting for just the game. You will likely be able to find this game used pretty soon, at a cheap price.
