5 out of 5 stars XBOX360 VS.PS3   August 28, 2008
I have had this game for a long time absolutely the most fun multiplayer game i have ever played period!but at one point when i had prestiged for the 4th time i got the RROD on my 360 and had to send it in to get fixed.so missing the action i bought it for my ps3 in the meantime had to start from square one on prestige.the ps3 version was very dissapointing didnt have the graphical flair the 360 had.some text was missing on creat a class.some sound effects were missing.this game was definatley geared more for the 360 fan base.and the ps3 server for playing online was awful. connection was always getting interrupted causing games to end early.xbox live only had those issues maybe once a week.so get it on xbox 360 you will be glad you did.

4 out of 5 stars Nearly Perfect!   August 26, 2008
Too bad I cannot give this game 4.9 stars. It was that close. Everything good that you have heard about this game is true. There are just some things that seperate it from a full 5 stars.

Actually only 3 come to mind:

In the single player mode, some of the AI characters who are "Force Recon Marines" are Privates (or paygrade of E-1). Perhaps the creators just didn't research their rankings enough. In the American military you advance up to E-3 (Lance Corporal for Marines) after 18 months, any Force Recon Marine would already be long past the rank of Private.

The second mistake was also related to rank. Captain Price is an O-3 (3rd officer paygrade), yet 15 years ago (in the sniper mission) he was a young Leftenant (an O-2). If he was a leftenant 15 years ago he should be at least a Lt. Colonel (O-5) or Colonel (O-6) by now. Yes O-6 in the Navy is called Captain, but then he would be placed in a desk job in any case. Either way for him to still be a Captain he would have had to have been reduced in rank several times, and have higher-tenured out (released prior to retirement for failing to pick up rank in a set number of years).

The third and last gripe I have is with the sniper mission. Great mission. But the sniper rifle you use when posting out in the Hotel is supposed to be the barrett M107, which was not around 15 years ago, when that mission was set.

These may seem rediculous, but hey, 5 stars doesn't come easy. Wish I could give them 4.9 stars, but 4 will have to suffice.

4 out of 5 stars An addictive time-waster   August 25, 2008
This game is tons of fun in online mode. The single-player mode is fun, too, but it has the same design as others in the series where you have limited ammo and unlimited enemies until you move to the next checkpoint. Keep this in mind or you're screwed.

The graphics and sound are fantastic! See and believe. The weapons have been tweaked so they're more balanced in the game, and less accurate representations of the accuracy and damage of the real things, but so what.

The online game has an innovative system where you earn upgrades by reaching certain achievements, such as a 25 kills with this weapon or killing X number of enemies using C4, and so on. It's frustrating that you can only use two of these upgrades ("perks") at a time, so you can't have increased bullet damage and red dot sights and increased health, but I guess it evens out the game.

I'd give it five stars but a couple of online maps are sub-optimal and really annoying, but overall it's still a blast to play, and if you like first-person shooters you'll be stuck on this for ... a while.

If someone blew you up with a claymore, it's probably me. Sorry.

5 out of 5 stars I like it.   August 24, 2008
I like it for work pressure relief. Great graphics. You are able to shoot weapons that you can not normally get your hands on including "Puff".

5 out of 5 stars Amazing in all facets   August 14, 2008
A game that stands the test of time. I've purchased GTA IV, Madden 2009, and several other games and this is still the one that resides in my 360.

The single player is short, but adrenaline-laden. The slow-motion sequences at the ends of certain levels (mile-high club, and the final showdown on the bridge come to mind) are so good that I've replayed them several times!

The multi-player is incredibly fun and engrossing. It's the reason my best friend bought a 360 of his own. All you need is 10 minutes, and you can have a blast on Free for All, or spend more time on one of the "big maps" playing ground war. It's well worth your time and money.

Take it from me...if you look at my reviews, I'm stingy with a 5-star rating, reserving it for only the best (think Resident Evil IV, etc.). Drop a few bucks, and indulge in this one before World at War brings fans back to the reality of prior CoD games...
