3 out of 5 stars Not quite what I wanted   July 19, 2008
Some time ago I owned a MadCatz (something like that) brand turbo controller, but after a year or so it developed an issue where it wouldn't stop going right. It was as if someone was holding the right directional button down constantly, and you had to hold left just to stand still. Apparently some Logitech controllers do the same thing, so I bought this. Logitech and Intec (this controller) seem to have the whole turbo market.

Now the turbo function on my last controller worked like this: turn on turbo, pick your button, do nothing while it auto-fires. This controller does not work that way without a rubber band. To have the same effect with this controller, you have to hold or rubber band the buttons down. It still fires rapidly (or not--it has several speeds which are easy to set) for you, but only while you're pressing the button. This could be good, I suppose, because it saves you the trouble of tapping the button but also makes it easier to stop the auto-fire. Just let go and press again when you're ready, as opposed to turn the turbo off entirely and reset it. However, I wanted it to press the button without me in order to avoid certain tedious parts of certain games. Thus it's not what I wanted but it has some arguable benefits anyway.

Further it has a "Program" function which is a second turbo function as far as I can tell. You can only "program" L2, R2, L3, and R3 though. By L/R3 it seems to mean you can program it to press the joysticks, not turn them. I do not own any games where L2 and R2 have a huge role, and most of my games don't care about pressing your joysticks at all.

Other than that, it's adequate. While the item itself is larger, all of its buttons and joysticks, excepting Start and Select, are smaller. I consider this a very slight improvement: the 'shoulder' buttons are more comfortable, in my opinion. But the X and such are somewhat less comfortable because they don't sink all the way down when you press them. A ridge on the button sticks up and after a while it can hurt your digits like the D-pad on old controllers does. It's not that big of a deal, but it's a notable difference. I also find that the normal controllers are more sensitive; occasionally I have to hit a button again and harder because it didn't respond. These things also contribute to my mediocre rating.

The reason I'm not returning this item is because Logitech's controllers aren't any better reviewed, except for their wireless ones and I'm not sure if those have turbo. The deciding factor for me is that with this one I can have what I want for the price of a rubber band, but with the other brand I'm not sure what I'm getting and it will cost me two batteries every fifty hours or so. I'll get a rubber band and this item gets three stars.

Oh, other reviewers mentioned that the controller isn't like the picture and/or doesn't have directions. Well, I got a black and silver controller like the one guy, but mine came with directions cleverly hidden by a cardboard flap which was itself inside the plastic. It fell out as I discarded the box or I'd have never known.

3 out of 5 stars something I know about   February 19, 2008

Since this's my first review, I figure I would write about something I know very well: these turbo controllers.
I believe Intec has a quatily problem, they either make things two ways, really good or really bad. This is highly evident with these controllers. I buy one once and it lasts 5 years, I buy one another time, and it lasts 1 month. Once I went through 5 in a year.
You may be asking yourself why I keep shelling out my all too scarce dollars for these things. The thing is i have a physical disability called Cerebral Palsy, and that means my hands won't move right. So I can't play most games without a turbo function on the controller, and these are the only ones I can find. The quality is really pot luck though.
Other than that it is a good turbo controller and it performs that function fine.
A few problems came up while using it however, the buttons can be a bit hard to push. And something else, but I think this is mostly on part of the shipper, whatever the picture looks like above, in my experience, you will receive a black and silver model with a program function. The program function...is annoying. It comes with no instructions, that I can find, and you tend to hit the 'Program' button when you don't want too. That screws up your buttons and to reset it you have to unplug it and plug it back in. Like I said...annoying.
OH, BY THE WAY, DO -NOT- GET IT WET!

This was a complete waste of money. It is junk and broke on me the first day. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS PS2 Controller, buy the WiFi Logitech one instead.

5 out of 5 stars Great so far   January 11, 2007
I got this for my son for christmas and it has played some hard games with him. He is on the ruff side and thinks that the harder you hit the buttons the better. I realize that it hasn't been but a few days but he likes it and it is holding up so far.

I loved this product when I first got it. I used it daily and loved the freedom. But shortly after my dear daughter spilled nail polish remover all over it and it has since died. I would definately recommend this product, it is great. Just keep it away from liquids.
