Fun, but it just didn't have it... September 8, 2008 I liked Stronghold 2 and Stronghold Legends was OK but this game is just so outdated and the graphics stank so much I could only play it twice before I never looked at it again.
Addicting, non-productive fun August 9, 2008 If you don't have anything to do for the next couple of months, get this game! It's fun, it's addicting. The graphics are great, the music is annoying after the first 20 minutes. It's challenging and a decent waste of time.
The Best RTS Game ever made .......................................... December 9, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This game is awesome I am still playing it year after year. Man and the Co-op game play is the coolest. Get a friend get this game and find another computer. The thing runs like a rock you can't kill this game. Island one game for life HERE IT IS.................................................. War crap / Age of what / STRONGHOLD wins again
A solid, thoroughly engaging game June 30, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Stronghold: Crusader is a game you can really sink your teeth into. As many reviewers have noted, it is set during the Crusades in the Middle East, but what is remarkable about this backdrop is how absorbing it is. The music, the scenery, the sound effects all contribute to transporting you into this historical context and location. Even though much of the landscape is desert, the maps do not feel the least bit monotonous.
The game is extremely successful in capturing the nuances and subtleties of the time period and geography. Weve all heard the expression, "It's all in the details," and Stronghold: Crusader proves it. Some of the most satisfying moments of the game are the mundane tasks your peasant workers carry out: bakers flip bread inside burning ovens; masons expertly chisel stones into cubic bricks with only a few strokes; woodcutters plane trees into boards. All of these little actions happen right before your eyes, and it's actually quite pleasant to sit back and watch your community bustle.
There are battles too, and these are handled well (though they are certainly not the best in the rts genre). Generally, the two opposing forces are evently matched, each side having specialized forces that offset the strengths of the other's. The pathfinding is fine, but the AI is sometimes painfully unintelligent. Units will sometimes form disastrous congo lines when launching an attack, rather than attempting to surround the enemy.
However, these complaints are really trivial when contrasted with everything this game has going for it. Stronghold: Crusader is definitely worth a first and second look.
One of my favorites January 15, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I LOVE this game! You have a choice of: Crusader,Multiplayer,Campagin or Custom Scenerio! The graphichs are well done, the troops are not bad,and custom scenerios are awsome. In custom scenerios you start out with just desert sand then you build castles and terrain and set up your own goals and what happens when you lose! Also if you select Crusader you have a choice between crusader trail or skirmish. Trust i is worth buying!
