The Grandaddy of All Sandbox Games September 30, 2008 What can I say about GTA III that hasn't been said? It really was the first game (that I can think of) that let you do whatever you wanted to do in a large 3D environment. You want that car? Take it. Wanna blow up 5 cars at once with a well-placed bazooka blast? Go for it! Graphics that were bad enough to not cause game slowdowns but awesome for their day, play control that even after several years are still easily familiar, and a soundtrack that, while repetitive, truly captured the essence of the lost metropolis that is Liberty City--this game was all that and more; Vice City just took it up another notch by adding bikes, helicopters, seaplanes, and even more Scarface references to an already winning package. If you haven't played this game, you don't understand just how groundbreaking it really was.
Now, all that said, GTA III and Vice City are not without their flaws. The chief, end-all-be-all, Grand Poobah-sized problem with both of them is simple: in a game where you can race around the city with enough weapons to take on a small army, why oh why can you not even swim?! Rockstar's choice to not include what seems to be such a simple ability knocks the games' fun factor down a notch. This is especially annoying given the number of water-based missions and the fact that many land-based missions take place near a coastline. By the time they addressed this for GTA: San Andreas, they had created a monster of a game that had to be more of an obsession than a hobby to complete. Beyond the swimming issue, the graphics do have some rather humorous glitches--people walk through walls, AI driven vehicles will randomly flip, and delays in background rendering that makes it appear that the road you are going down becomes water even if it's not. Much like the annoyances that give exotic cars "character", these flaws do not entirely kill what are a great pair of games, but they do cause you to chuckle in increasing annoyance as they continually reappear.
Two Great games in one pack .WOW August 3, 2005 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Grand Theft Auto saved me from stopping playing video games since every game now sucks, but this one doesn't I mean it has everything for a game killing, bad words, prostitues, mafia, cars, weapons, and more. The Double pack comes with two GREAT games GTA3 which is my favorite because it's dark and addictive ,The other is GTA Vice City which is also fun because it's more lifelike then GTA3 but thats the point they both have two different atmospheres. Both Games are very long which is good because once you play it you won't want it to end, and don't buy this for your kids because their are a lot of Stupid parents out there that buy it and wonder why there kids are acting so bad. Otherwise then that A MUST HAVE SO BUY IT NOW.
Amazing games, great deal. July 29, 2005 6 out of 8 found this review helpful
First off, these games are incredible. Perhaps the best Action RPGs I've ever played, with a really dark/sarcastic sense of humor. If people don't understand that the games are satirical, they probably shouldn't be playing them... The excessive violence is humorous sadistic fun.
That being said, I cannot believe that these little kids are coming on here and spouting off the ridiculous things they're saying. Sorry, you little brats, you should not be playing these games, nor am I interested in your opinions or justifications for doing so.
I was absolutely dumbfounded by the 12 year old who posted something like "there's female nudity in this game, and that's bad because it makes parents react negatively to the game." If you think nudity is the most offensive thing in this game, you're completely oblivious... and if nudity is what it takes to alert parents to the simple obvious fact that children should not be playing this, then thank god for the nudity.
Forget all this silly controversy over the new game's Hot Coffee mode... These games SHOULD be rated Adults Only to begin with...
Parents!!!!: This is a game where your character can have sex with a hooker, then beat her to death to get your money back. Then you can use that money to buy a gun and go kill some cops. You can kill innocent old ladies for kicks and go unpunished for it. You can enter a code that makes the game more violent, so that spraying people with your machine gun will make their arms fly off and their heads explode. You can block a highway with your abandoned car and then climb up onto a hill with a rocket launcher and start blowing away the traffic that piles up. You can climb up to the top of a tall building and take out innocent pedestrians with a sniper rifle. Your character will be employed by members of the Mafia and Yakuza, and he will be involved in drug smuggling and weapon trafficking. In this game, the police are your enemy. This is a game that rewards you for committing heinous crimes, and it's an absolute blast unlike any other game out there...
DO NOT BUY THIS GAME FOR YOUR KIDS! DO NOT LISTEN TO YOUR CHILDREN WHEN THEY TRY TO CONVINCE YOU TO BUY IT FOR THEM!
There are few things short of hardcore porn that I would say are more innapropriate for children. You should be AT LEAST 17 to play this game. Of course these little kids are trying to say that it's ok for children, but come on! They love it because its insanely fun!
Video games are NOT just for children anymore, and this game makes that blatantly clear. It's a great step forward for this medium as a valid artform, but it's also dangerous for parents who don't pay attention and assume that video games are just for children.
Let kids have freedom too parents! April 5, 2005 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I got this for my birthday off my uncle! Heres my game summary GTA 3 Plot:You've been betrayed and left for dead. Now you're taking revenge, unless the city gets you first. Mob bosses need a favor, crooked cops need help, and street gangs want you dead. You'll have to rob, steal, and kill just to stay out of serious trouble. Anything can happen out here. Verdict: Fun but not as good as GTA Vice City which I play more but I play this when a mission gets boring on Vice City so its percentage is 83%! I normally just mess about on this one. GTA Vice City Plot:Our "hero" is Tommy Vercetti (voiced by Ray Liotta), a gangster just out from a long stint in lockdown. Working for the Forelli family, Tommy is involved in a shady business deal that goes horribly wrong. So begins his quest to regain money, power, and respect in Vice City. Verdict: Awfully fun! I feel sorry for my mate who bought Vice city and it broke after just 2 days! He had to take it back! I love this and motorbikes are fun and I love hitting people with my Baseball Bat outside of missions. Basic compared to San Andreas (I dont have it but I borrowed it off my mate)but fun! the hammer I also love using! It also takes my parents back to the 80s! the percentage is 98% I have something to say before my conclusion! This game aint as violent as everyone says and heres why: 1. Language is only words like s**t and a** 2. The violence is strong yes but its more cartoony than realistic 3. Sex is in it but its only a car rocking 4. Nudity is included but it's only semi nudity no worse than what is on a beach on a hot day. So parents I'm 12 and my verdict for you is if you're child is sensible, doing well in school and not violent let them have it but if they r not sensible, doing rubbish in school and violent say no so if they r sensible let them play it! Conclusion: Great and 2 great games for a good price and you wont have to buy another game for a while because it will take a while to finish the 2! Buy now and San Andreas as well! Peace out people!
