Its cool May 21, 2008 I cant see how every game reviewer is giving this game a perfect score. It is fun, but it still has many of the same annoying control issues/glitches you find in prior GTA's. Also, the multiplayer is nothing to brag about. The pregame/matchmaking system is horrible. It often freezes, and its hard rare that you ever get a full match where everyone knows what they're doing. It definatley does not compare to the fun and competion of Halo 3 or COD 4. The single player mode however is extremly fun and entertaining. The depth is amazing, from browsing the internet and checking email, to browsing the police car laptop database to find people you need to kill. This is definatley a must have title. Altough its close, it just dosent live up to the hype of a "perfect" game for me.
doesn't come close to the hype May 21, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
there are some very impressive elements to this game, but all and all, i just don't see what everyone is so thrilled about. The gameplay is fair, the mini games are tolerable, but not much more. Good weapon choice. good vehicle choice, i like the open play format (as much as i did the other games in the series) and the maps are HUGE. but, it's not a good shooter, it's not a good driving sim (or arcade), it's not a good strategy game, and it's not a good action game. it's not, weak - just mediocre.
BOTTOM LINE: the game is flat. it doesn't have any real WOW to it. Also, it probably goes with out saying, but don't let kids even watch this game, let alone play it. The rating is on the box for good reason. pay attention to it.
Greatest game ever made May 21, 2008 I don't use the phrase lightly but GTA 4 is the greatest game ever made. I've been a pretty heavy gamer since Atari. I've owned every system (except NeoGeo, that Nokia one and a few other crappies) and played hundreds if not thousands of games (including the original GTA on PC). I can say with absolute certainty of my opinion that this game is the greatest ever made.
If you are a fan of the previous GTAs, then you will love this one. It uses a physics engine technology called Euphoria so there are no longer any canned animations. Everything is computed on the fly, and it makes for some great gameplay. Everything from the previous GTAs is revamped. The combat system is much better and the game makes great use of it. Graphics are incredible and the world is live and completely interactive.
But the new improved gameplay is not what makes this game the greatest ever. It's the attention to detail. Without going into too much detail, you can tell they spent a lot of time on this game, and it pays off.
But it's not just the attention to detail either. This game is also the funniest game I've ever played. From the hundreds of unique comments you can hear from pedestrians on the street, to the ads on the radio, to the characters in the story. Everyone has a lot to say and most of it will crack you up. Even the cabbies you call for car service are hilarious.
This game is just such a masterpiece, if you own a 360 or PS3, you must own it. Definitely not for minors though.
Not as good as 3 May 20, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Graphics are good, but everything else in this is less than GTA 3.
The music, the story and all the elements except graphics were better in 3.
Would I buy it, yeah. Get the special edition with the lock box. Quality stuff there. It is a fun game. I guess it would be asking too much to top GTA 3. Lets hope GTA V is the one. Online turf wars defending your patch with your buddies and more life like on line interaction.... Give it to us!
Freakin awesome. May 20, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I'll start with the bads: - The 360's antialiasing filter makes things real jaggy in the background as opposed to the PS3's version which uses a blur filter (PS3's version looks a little more natural) - The textures are so-so, but when you consider the vastness of the world you're in, it's easily forgiveable
Goods: - Everything. Haha. As general as that sounds, if you liked the previous GTAs, you will LOVE this one - The missions are a tad easier (no time limits for the most part) than the previous games so there's a little less frustration (ymmv) - The story is great. I feel more connected to the main character of this story compared to the previous games. There's a lot of great moments of humor and epicness if that makes any sense - Decisions and relationships play a big part of the game. Depending on the choices you make throughout the game during missions and interacting with people, the game changes. Pretty dynamic from what I've experienced at least.
Bottom line: Buy it if you already haven't. A must have for XBox360 owners. It should sit on the shelf right next to Call of Duty 4 ;P
