5 out of 5 stars good   June 20, 2008

It's seems to be a good game. I bought it for my son and he plays it a lot. He was very happy to receive it.

2 out of 5 stars A Rather Mediocre Entry in the GTA Series   June 20, 2008

I have been a fan of the GTA series since the 2D games back on the original Playstation. Overall, the series has had a mostly clean track record in terms of quality thus far (besides the lackluster Stories titles). Grand Theft Auto IV, however, is an incredibly disappointing next-gen debut that does not do justice to the legendary series.

The visuals are undeniably the best part of the game. This is the most realistic entry in the series by far. However, the realism definitely makes the game less enjoyable. Where's the imagination that fueled past entries in the series?

The design of Liberty City this time around is also poor and incredibly boring. GTA IV was supposed to be a Saints Row killer - so why does that earlier title have superior game design and better multiplayer?

Wait, did I mention multiplayer? Yup, I sure did. In terms of that, GTA IV does not deliver. Saints Rows' enjoyable death matches put GTA IVs varied (but ho-hum) modes to shame.

The single player storyline is also full of cliches. An immigrant comes to America, expecting great things but not getting exactly what he wanted? That's been done before numerous times. Feed us something original, Rockstar.

Overall, it seems like more effort was put into the visuals than in other aspects of the title. In terms of graphics, Grand Theft Auto IV puts past titles in the series to shame. However, this game is a step down in every other way, and it left my expectations unfulfilled.

As that classic Public Enemy song went,

"Don't believe the hype!".

1 out of 5 stars A great game, if it doesn't destroy your xbox360 or PS3   June 18, 2008

We all know that this game is great, one of the best games ever made, there is absolutely no doubt about it.

What many don't know is that Rockstar has yet again done a very poor job beta testing this game before releasing it. I have had my xbox totally lock up on me after occasionally freezing during playing this game. These same very issues occur on the PS3 version of the game, where Rockstar actually created a patch fix that could be downloaded via the PSN network. At current time of this writing, there has been no such patch for the xbox 360 version.

At first the freezing up for me was occasional, once every couple of hours, not a huge deal. Then it became worse, and then actually wouldn't let me play at all, freezing up as soon as you were done loading a game. Even quickly loading a previous game save before it crashed would only work temporarily. At this point, it was only happening with this actual game, the freezing that is. I was not getting the "Red Rings of Death" that has so plagued the xbox 360. I called in to Microsoft xbox support, and they told me I had to send my console in to be repaired... again, I was not gettting the R.R.O.D. -- they were not going to charge me for the fix, I had an extended warranty on the unit anyway, I did previously have the RROD, about 1 year ago, but have played the 360 extensively after they "repaired" it then. Even playing GTA IV for the first 15 hours or so the game didn't crash even once! Then it started happening occasionally, then it just killed my 360!

This is a great game, but it is awful that Rockstar didn't beta test this game enough. And before anyone thinks this is just me, go and look it up on youtube and you will find TONS of videos of this game either freezing up or completely bricking xbox360s.. Rockstar also had the exact same issues occuring with the xbox360 version of Bully, which also was in the news a bit.

Note to Rockstar... please beta test your games better. Not just for the 360 but the PS3 too. Till then I am not buying anymore games from you guys, it isn't worth my time and aggravation, no matter how good the content may be. Again, remember the PS3 is suffering from very similar hardware failures as well, so we know it isn't completely the hardware itself, but the software crashing the consoles, and in my case BRICKING IT!

1 out of 5 stars Not worth it!   June 18, 2008

If your 12 years old it might be good, but then the language would not be appropiate.

Waste of money and time.

All the hoopla is why it sold not because of the (so called) game!

5 out of 5 stars Best game ever made.   June 17, 2008

OK. most of you reading this review are familiar with the previous installments of the series. So all I am going to do is touch on the points that make this game Soar above all of the previous ones.

1. The graphics. Of course we would expect this out of a 360 or PS3 as compared to the previous versions, but I should tell you exactly what makes it different. Wreckage. Far more realistic than before, the wrecks seem far more fluid, and realistic than before, If a wreck is pretty bad, the car just stops working, rather than bursting into flames, which is not very realistic. When you wreck into things, the damage that occurs is more realistic than before. For example in previous games running into bushes was like running into a wall, yet running into a light pole at a slow speed was quite destructive. Not the case here. When you run into a light pole something actually happens, the light goes off and live wires spark upon the street. (No, you can not get electricuted buy the wires, but still its pretty cool.) You will not just barrel over trees either.

2. Save points. Finally, after a mission is over it saves the game, no more running back to the "safehouse" and getting in trouble for something minor and ruining it all, that is a GREAT advantage of this game.

3. Losing a warning level over 2. It was really aggrevating that if you managed to get to a 2 level warning, you were done for, unless you made it to a safe house, now, there is a radar range meter that lets you know where to go and how far to go to start hiding from your warrant level. That is brilliant addition to the game.

4. Taking the taxi: If you dont feel like driving to your next mission, then dont, just take the taxi. While it is a little tricky to get in the taxi without truing to steal it, it can be done, and it is a great feature.

5. Going to the hospital: You dont lose your weapons. Also another great addition. No more going to the hospital and having to load the previous game to get back to where you were. Just take the Taxi and be on your way.

6. Realistic car handling/better "dash view". For most cars, instead of the old bumper view, which is hard to navigate around on, this view includes the hood and looks just like you are driving the car.

7. Body reaction to pain. there is no more just running out in front of a car to stop it...If you do that you will be run over and it looks very real, your body flys about in a random manner. (It does affect your health.) Also, there is no jogging down the street faster than a car is driving, if you miss your chance to take it, then too bad, better look for another.

8. Weapons and explosives: I cant say enough about how much better the sounds of explosions, and bullets firing sound. It is far more polished and realistic than any other installment.

In short, its the same game you are used to loving, just much more polished and realistic. Check out new york city vs GTA IV comparisions on google to see what I mean. There is a tremendous attention to detail in this game. So much that I think It would rival many major motion pictures.

Have fun my friends, its a helluva ride.
