BLUETOOTH Might Be a Pain For You June 20, 2008 2 out of 8 found this review helpful
As a grown-up gamer and audio/visual enthusiast I was pleased to see that I could kill two birds with one stone and buy a new gaming system and BluRay player all in one. In one sense, the ability to combine things ended there though because this remote, and its PS3 mate, operate via BlueTooth technology. This sounds appealing because it can go through walls and all that (I don't often watch movies from behind walls) or at least you dont have to point the thing at the PS3 and you can hide the PS3 in a cabinet. But you cannot (unless you want to be Tech McGyver) combine this remote into a Universal remote because the PS3 cannot accept non-BlueTooth input. Most Universal Remotes operate on IR (Infrared), some feature RF (Radio Frequency) none that I know of are compatible with BT (BlueTooth). So you better like this remote if you intend to use the PS3 as your BluRay player, because youll be seeing alot of it.
Decent Offering June 18, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I like the positions of all the buttons. It's nice that all three Pause, Stop, and Play buttons are huge and at the bottom. Very easy to find. The dedicated eject button is another nice feature. During and after the movie, using the remote makes things a breeze.
The problems arise when you're not in the middle of a movie. Specifically problems arise from the lack of a dedicated power button. You might not think that's such a big deal, as the PS button kind of functions like a power button. This is true, it does. But when the PS3 is in standby, so does every other button on the remote.
Yep, as I found out one day, pressing any button on this Blu-ray remote will cause the PS3 to hum to life. That's not a big deal either, except when you have your PS3 encased in a closed cabinet and you don't know you've turned it on. It happened to me once and I found the PS3 on hours later, fans roaring trying to keep it cool. Luckily the hearty little PS3 was fine. Still, I'm sure not to leave the remote lying around anymore.
A very good and very sensitive remote June 16, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
A must buy if you are watching movies with PS3. This remote as mentioned does not need line of sight for its operation.
The only draw back, I found this is, the PS3 switches on from standby if you press any button, may be a seperate power on/off button would have fetched a 5 star. Otherwise this is an excellent product.
Much better option than the controller. June 15, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This item does what you expect it to do! I only gave it a four because I wish that I could use my harmony remote with my PS3.
However, this remote is still a better option than using the remote to control movies. I always got frustrated by having to turn the controller off and on and sometime I would hit the R2 or L2 button on accident causing the movie to skip.
This remote is always on and always connected. It's not expensive and worth it for anyone who uses their PS3 for Blu-Ray movies (or upscaled DVD's) as much as I do!
By the way, its very easy to connect to your PS3. Simply select register PS3 remote on your PS3 and then hold the start and select buttons on your remote at the same time. Violla! Your done, and your remote is always connected.
You can also use the remote to control the XMB (cross media bar) and turn the console on and off!
Junk June 13, 2008 0 out of 16 found this review helpful
I am really disgusted with the SONY Blu-ray Disc Remote Control. The one I purchased at Best Buy won't register with my new PS3 80MB machine. It is not back lit, the battery cover wants to fall off with the greatest of ease. There are no indicator lights to tell you if anything is working, there is no "Off" button for the PS3 (how stupid is that)remote, it is cheesy and boxy with no ergonomic value let alone style, and last but not least I was perfectly happy with my Harmony universal remote that is now useless with this PS3 remote!I took it back and purchased a Nyko for half the money and am now using the IR converter so I can now use my Harmony 520 again. Go on convince me that Sony did not have an IR sensor remote on purpose!!! It is taunting the customer.
