4 out of 5 stars Amazing game console   January 26, 2008

Today I just received the PS3 console I purchased here on Amazon. I must say this is an amazing console. I could watch some of my favorites movies on HD because it has a built in Blu-Ray dvd player. The lowest Blu-Ray standalone dvd player sells for $399 why not just get a PS3 video game console that lets you play games and lets you watch Blu-Ray movies. Another thing I like about the console is that it has built in Wi-Fi. Its pretty handy because you don't have to buy another ethernet cord in order to play the games online.

For those that do have an xbox 360 like my self. The console might not be worth purchasing at the moment because most of the top PS3 games are available for the 360. In my opinion the only good exclusives PS3 has right now are Uncharted Drakes of fortune, Warhawk, Ratchet and Clank. Also the online service which is free is not as great as Xbox Live but it does it job to keep gamers satisfied.

For those that don't have an xbox 360 this console is worth buying. It has some titles that are worth buying and will keep you busy till the big name titles come out like GTA4, Metal Gear Solid 4, and other great games that will come out in 2008. Overall this game console gets a 4 out 5 stars.

5 out of 5 stars i am now without a doubt the best wife in the world!   January 25, 2008

i bought this as a late christmas present for my husband, the reason being on christmas day, i saw his brother got one, and i just couldnt forget the look on my husbands face when he saw it.

but truthfully the game is amazing.. i honestly thought that i would have to buy the console, a game, and a high definition tv altogether just to see the change in the graphics... not true. even on our regular tv, the graphics are amazing, which means i can save money for a high def tv, since the console is a PRETTY PENNY, INDEED. but totally, totally worth the money, i play games on it too, believe it or not. a great investment for the whole family. thank you!

5 out of 5 stars Quite satisfied with PS3 purchase   January 22, 2008

I had originally thought that my first "next gen" console (or "current gen", by now) was going to be an XBOX 360 or a Wii. The PS3 was just way too expensive, it didn't have a decent library of games, and its on-line support seemed mediocre at best.

Well, the Wii didn't seem to live up to the hype (or my expectations based on hype) from a gamer's perspective, and despite the great library of games, the 360 has been plagued with technical difficulties, and even with a 3 year warranty, I still would rather be playing games than having a 1-in-3 chance of having my console shipped off to repairs for weeks at a time.

So when Sony lowered the price of the PS3 to $399, I thought I'd give it another look. As it turns out, this past holiday season seemed to be an ideal time to hop on the PS3 train. While Sony's library of top tier games is still not the same size as the 360's, there is now enough out there to keep me happy for quite a long time (Warhawk, Resistan:FOM, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, COD4, Unreal Tournament 3, Burnout Paradise, Oblivion), which really, is what counts, particularly because the 2008 and beyond line-up looks very promising for the PS3. It seems that there will always be something good waiting for me when I finish whatever I happen to be playing at the time. And with games at $59 a pop, I don't need a ton of really good games (as my wallet would become quite unhappy), I only need enough to keep me happily occupied, which, in my opinion, the PS3 has right now.

Beyond the games, what also swayed me to purchase the 40GB PS3 is that it runs with 1/3 less energy than the other PS3 models, and much cooler and quieter as well. It seems very well built at has a strong reputation for quality. Built-in Wi-fi, Blu-Ray playback, Media Center functionality, PS1 backward compatability and the ability to install Linux as a second OS were all nice bonus features, too. There's also Web browsing, but it's far too limited in its current form do anything more useful than checking news and watching YouTube videos (which does have a certain "neat" factor).

While the PlayStation Network (PSN) is nowhere near as robust or well run as XBOX Live, it is free, and my experience playing games on-line over the PSN has been great and on par with my experience playing games on the original XBOX via XBOX Live (which was also quite good). There are some good downloadable games and free demos also available...Again, not a ton compared to XBOX Live, but enough to keep me happy and interested for the right now, and it seems there is promising new content on the way.

For the price, the features, the current and future library of solid and entertaining games, the 40GB PS3 has been a great purchase for me.

5 out of 5 stars Playstation Great, Sony Evil.   January 20, 2008

Let's get this out of the way. The Media Center and that is what your getting is great. Bluray and the high-definition quality for movies are great, even if your using a regular tv set. Games are fun, but limited. 2008 will be the great step PS3 users have been waiting for. The possiblilty of using it as a DVR is also great. I've ripped my own DVDs and placed them inside the thing, so I can easily access it. Moding is acceptable and changing my 40g for a 250 g hard drive is excellent and simple.

Here is the problem. A lot of owners have falling into Sony's evil crooked hands. Apparently, if dust is gathered into you newly, EXPENSIVE PS3 your warranty is done. You must use it in a dust free environment where dust doesn't exist. If it gathers enough dust, Sony will not fix it unless you play another large amount of money to them. 1. They don't have enough games to keep you satisfied. 2. Blurays are now $299.99 and some come in Bluray/HD combs, PS3 isn't the cheapest Bluray in the market. And 3. your taking a leap of faith, when there are 2 other systems that can easily give you some more games. 360 willing to lose money to replace or fix your broken systen(which will happen) and the Wii just happen to be the only consoled out there that works well and works. If Sony is willing continue being jerks to their fan base, their consumers, their only friend in the video game industry, they will be the next Neo Geo, the next Turbographix, the next consoled left in the dust.

4 out of 5 stars PS3 - Surprisingly good and bad   January 19, 2008

First let me start by saying that I am very impressed with the PS3. I have been a loyal XBOX360 owner for 2 years as well as XBOX LIVE. What impresses me the most about the PS3 is the hardware, design and feel. This thing is built very well. Feels very solid and sturdy. The built in Bluetooth and WiFi are huge ++++++++. Come on Microsoft? $90 for a WiFi adapter. Also, kudos to SONY for making the PS3 so quiet as compared to the XBOX 360. The XBOX is so much louder it's ridiculous, as I also have the Xbox HD DVD player which is also extremely loud. It does become bothersome after a short while. The PS3 is a pleasure.

The PS3 interface is also very nice and well laid out. Tons of options, maybe too much for some people, but I like it just fine.

Now....on to the PS Network. Here's where XBOX LIVE wins hands down. XBOX LIVE is laid out better, it's easier to navigate and everything just works. From, friends lists to chatting to gaming online....XBOX LIVE is Stellar. The PS network has alot of catching up to do. I found that it took very long to get online, very difficult to play with friends online and very difficult to locate settings while in game play. You have to leave the game to access the PS network settings. XBOX LIVE just makes the experience so much better.

I also found that my PS3 locked up a few times when playing downloaded games. After a quick reboot, it was all good. Also when downloading games on the PS network, you have to wait for the download and then wait for the game to install. On XBOX LIVE, after the download finishes you can start to play right away.

Overall, I really like the PS3, the features, the build, built in Blu-Ray (looks like it's gonna be the new HD format), built-in WiFi. If PS3 had XBOX LIVE, this system would be a no-brainer for any gamer.
