A superb flashdrive January 20, 2008 First of all, note that this refers to the 256 MB model. I have used it almost daily for nearly two years, with absolutely flawless performance. I initially used the included interface software, which is easy to follow, but now I just copy files in and out. Even the slow USB rate is fine for multiple megabyte files. The device conveniently flashes red when connected to the slower USB, and blue when connected to 2.0. Recently, the removable cap cracked. I called Kingston Technologies, and soon was speaking with a real person. A week later, a package arrived with not one but TWO caps, courtesy of the company. Now that's customer service!! Thus, I would heartily recommend this line of flash drives, and the company that backs them, any time.
Excelente. September 7, 2006 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
Justo lo que necesito, ya he trabajado bastante con este pendrive (DataTraveler) y no me ha fallado para nada. El uso que le doy es muy simple, nada de complejidades. Por eso digo que me ha gustado y que me sirve justo para lo que necesito.
Saludos.
The encryption feature requires administrator privileges on Windows 2000 and XP October 11, 2005 61 out of 63 found this review helpful
On paper Kingston DataTraveler Elite (KUSBDTE/1GB) flash disk looks very promising: 1 GB, read 24 MB/sec, write 14 MB/sec and on-the-fly hardware AES encryption with the same very high read/write performance. This hardware encryption looked really nice, so I bought one. However, when testing the device I found that it has one very big drawback that is not mentioned anywhere -- the encryption feature requires administrator privileges on Windows 2000 and XP. That means if you don't have admin privileges, you can't open your encrypted partition, which rules this device out for anyone who is planning to use it in internet cafes or any other similar public computers, where you don't always have admin access. On that case you can only use part of the drive that you have left unencrypted.
On Kingston web site they have additional Windows service called Non-Admin for download, that makes it possible to use the encryption without admin privileges, however, you can only install this service on your own computers, not on public ones (because installation also requires admin privileges).
