I am pleased with the product. It is fast and I have had no problems with it...Just wish I would have gotten a bigger one. The included software is simple and easy to use.
On the other hand...by looking at these reviews it seems like these drives have problems with durability and customers may want to look elsewhere.
Great Product February 21, 2007 I ordered this product for use both on a MAC and PC. I works well on both OS's.
I was worried about the other reviews on this product that stated that is was made of cheap plastic. It is, but so is every other flash dive I have ever had and none of them have died on me. If your tough on equipment you will have problems with any flash drive.
The Lexar SecureII software that comes with it works very well on Both MAC and PC. It is the only encrypted virtual drive other than PGP Desktop that works on both MAC and PC. It is probably not as secure as PGP, but secure enough in case the drive is lost.
I wish I could change my star rating from 5 to 3 February 6, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Since I wrote my original review, my 2nd Jumpdrive Lightning (a 2GB model) has developed a case of the slows, not always, but always when it writes off of my newest, most powerful PC. The Lexar tech support guy's only suggestion was that I not use the Media Center edition of Win XP. It's a weird problem. The new Jumprdrive originally was equally fast (very fast) on all my PCs. But I'm not about to change my computer's OS. Anyway, I can no longer give Lexar Jumpdrives a very high recommendation. My original review follows: The name Lightning is fully justified by the exceptional performance of this memory stick. It seems fully 5 times faster than a 2-Gbyte "EP" memory stick that I bought just a few months ago (and now never use!), and at least twice as fast as even my old Lexar Jumpdrive Pro. Maybe if you want some special "software" this is not the device for you, but for the basic function of ultra-portable storage, this is way, way superior to anything else I've ever had -- or borrowed. By the way, I only noticed those negative reviews because I stopped by to order the new 2-Gbyte version of the Lightning. (I really need both 2 Gbytes and speed.) If I am reading the technical specs right, the 2-Gbyte version is even a bit faster than the 1-Gbyte Lightning.

This is my third lexar jumpdrive, I have the original purple USB 1.1, a 512mb secure, and now the 1GB lightning. I expected great quality as before, with a metal case, you expect durability, but this unit falls short. The size is great and I got it at a great price, however now 4 months after purchase the cap will not stay on, it pops off all the time, I have had to crawl half way under my car twice to get it. I have always been impressed with Lexar, but this item falls far short compared to other units they have made. I would suggest saving your money.
VERY POOR QUALITY May 10, 2006 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
We purchased 21 of these. 20 out of the lot are defective. The Lightning "Jump Drives" have a rubber/plastic molding that holds the front and back of the jump drive together. The cap is built the same way. Upon removing the drives from the package, and removing the caps, most of them cracked and parts of the plastic fell off. We contacted Lexar (brush up on your Indian language skills before calling) and did not get anywhere with them..... I would NOT recommend buying from Lexar. We returned the products to PC Mall, and exchanged them for SanDisk Cruzer Titaniums. MUCH BETTER!
