Perfect, but... May 24, 2008 Perfect - it does what it needs to, but as soon as I bought I wondered if I was buying large enough.
The reality is that you cannot keep up with the ever-changing ratio of memory/dollars, so do not even try. Just be happy and comfortable knowing you are buying something obsolete - always.
As for the product, cool design and seems well made. Not really sure if I need the u3 software that came with it, but that must be in the price somewhere!
SanDisk's 4GB Cruzer Slide - One of the better USB Drives, but step up to 8 GB April 22, 2008 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
This Cruzer Slide design has apparently been around for a while, but of course I tried every other one under the sun before even finding out about it. From the Kingston Data Traveler to the Sandisk Cruzer and Cruzer Micro to a bunch of other brands, I have had tons of these things. And this Slide design has a lot of positives.
This guy has 2, 4 and 8 GB sizes. 8GB is kind of the minimum size I would purchase at this point, since like I said I have a ton of smaller ones. This guy has a bigger case than I would like, especially with all the smaller drives out there now.
The attachment ring is really nice. It's big enough to easy hook it on to something. I really hate trying to attach my sticks to key rings with the really small holes that are on most drives. That's the main issue I have with the Kingston 8GB DataTraveler.
Like the Cruzer Micro you don't have to worry as much about losing the cover SanDisk 8 GB Cruzer Micro. There's still a chance of getting dust in it. Kingston also makes some retractable USB models as well, but in general I still prefer SanDisk. Kingston DataTraveler 100 8 GB Kingston DT100/8GB Data Traveler
Pros: + The attachment ring is great for easily hooking on to stuff - no fumbling with key rings + The slide-back top is also nicer than those on other thumb drives because it can't be lost + Nice capacity options offer good storage + Nice color options for different tastes + Durable body and NAND memory stands up to a lot of abuse + Compatible with old and new Mac and PC Operating Systems (XP, Vista, OS X) + USB 2.0 connection is backwards compatible for older computers + Easy to format and enable encryption to protect your data
Cons: - Personally I'm not crazy about the U3 software on Sandisk USB drives - Bigger case than other drives - Not as attractive as the Sandisk Cruzer Micro - Still somewhat slow speed in copying large files, limited by USB transfer rate - Prices are still relatively high for this drive
Overall this is a great USB drive with good capacity. If you need something you can easy attach to key-chains and don't mind a slightly larger body, this is the one for you.
Enjoy!
Works just fine March 11, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I used this thumb drive to transfer files between my Mac at home and my PC at work and it functioned properly. Transfer times seem pretty quick as well.
Great for file storage and U3 functionality February 9, 2008 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
This is the second Sandisk Cruzer product I have bought. I was so happy with the first that I was willing to shell out a couple more dollars for this one when I need to increase the amount of memory I had available. Both this Cruzer and my previous one (256MB Cruzer mini) have never given me any problems with data loss or corruption. The U3 aspect of the device is fantastic - I can run Thunderbird from any computer and avoid having to use webmail. I also keep an electronic calendar on it (EssentialPIM) which is handy, and also Firefox with all of my bookmarks. The reason I haven't given 5 stars on this product is because I've had an issue where if my computer goes into standby while the device is plugged in, when I go to eject later, it gives me an error and won't tell me it's safe to remove. This worries me a little, but it's possible that there is an easy fix that I haven't taken the time to find. Overall, I'm quite happy with this product.
