 Another High Quality Product From Sony October 3, 2008
This is my second Sony DVD-RW drive purchase. The first was a DRU830A, the discontinued predecessor to the DRU840A. The DRU840A is slightly faster than the DRU830A so I will use it as my primary DVD/CD drive. I purchased the second Sony drive because both are so quiet you have to see the indicator LED to sense that they are working. A previous Plextor drive could be heard in the next room. I have found the Sony drives not only super quiet, but very reliable and accurate recording critical data or video. I would highly recommend these drives to a friend.

I am satisfied with this product. The hardware installation was easy; the software was so-so. My biggest complaints are that my system takes noticeably longer to boot, the white faceplate is not a good match for my putty-colored case, and the default software installation included Nero Scout, a mostly useless app that caused my system to hang on shutdown. Everything is running smoothly now, and disc burning is really fast.
Painless installation, works flawlessly July 15, 2008
After installing this dvd writer it has done nothing but work flawlessly. I've burned nearly 30 dvd's with no problems (and with no coasters). If you're looking for a dvd burner look no further, this is what you want.

I purchased this dvd burner because my old one was done. It was old and didn't like the new dual layer format. This product works well. Great value for a great price, and it's a Sony. Sony usually has good products that last and it is a name you can trust. Haven't had any problems. It also has a reversible faceplate, so you could have either black or white drive cover. It also had lightscribe, if you want to make more professional looking discs. Definately worth looking into when purchasing a dvd drive.
