2 out of 5 stars Disapointing...   August 27, 2008
0 out of 3 found this review helpful

I bought this because it handles many formats of cards but specifically it reads MicroSD. I am also using Kingston cards so that fact that I'd be using a reader by the same manufacturer somehow seemed to be a plus.
However, although I have not tested all the "slots", MicroSD does NOT work. Not even with 2 different Kingston cards. (they work fine if I use the adaptor and plug into the standard SD slot- but that defeats the purpose)
Another semi-useful but disapointing piece of electronics from China.
The retractable shell design that protects cards in use from bumping and dislodging, is interesting.
Could be that nobody cares about quality control anymore and my unit has a defect with the wiring to the MicroSD reader, but regardless, I'd avoid this one.
Can't return it of course because the original packaging is now gone...and is it really worth it to return something under $20 anyway.
Our modern life...technology sure ain't the fix.

3 out of 5 stars Great working product, but odd design   August 23, 2008
I bought this product to take care of the problem of everone at work asking me to download their photos, even though they each have different memory cards.

I found that the design is very odd. It has a garage door opener-type switch on the top which slides the chasis deep into, or flush with, the outer shell. Perhaps this is to protect the cards once they are in, but I though it to be very unnecessary.

This product did not meet the one size fits all challenger either. My coworker asked to borrow this and her memory card did not fit.

Aside from that, the Kingston is a reliable brand and this is a reliable product and it has really helped me out when I needed it.

4 out of 5 stars Works OK, may need firmware update   August 17, 2008
I'm using it with 4GB and 8GB SanDisk and PNY UDMA-enabled CF cards; it works well for the price BUT...

The one I received would not read 8GB cards out of the box. I contacted Kingston tech support and downloaded the firmware update; the problem was solved.

3 out of 5 stars Works fine but NO XD   August 11, 2008
This is fine for SD/CF but they should clarify in the description that it does not support XD cards.

5 out of 5 stars very happy   August 8, 2008
For as much of a techie that I am (built my own PVR and home network entertainment system) I have never bothered purchasing a card reader. I just plugged the card into the built in port on my printer (not usb 2.0) and walked off as it copied 100 pictures in about 18 minutes. Since I was buying a usb hub, I figured I would grab one of these as well due to the cost and possibly getting a new printer without a port. Wow, 100 pictures now copy in less than 2 minutes. No complaints about it at all, thought the only port I use right now is the sony card from my sony camera. Used it about 6 times so far, no issues, well worth the money if you need a quick offload speed...such as when you are leaving for a family reunion and just remembered that you forgot to offload the zoo pictures!
