5 out of 5 stars Back to Mac...this time for good!   July 17, 2008

I had owned Macs in the past, but always thought they were too slow compared to PCs. Apple has long been at the cutting edge of industrial design, but I found the cost of their computers to be too high relative to the performance. I can happily say that I no longer feel that way. After spending time in my neighborhood Apple Store, I finally felt comfortable enough to buy another Mac and I am beyond pleased!

First of all, the latest version of OS X is a fantastic operating system. Everything just works. I have had no crashes or other inconveniences in the month I have owned this laptop. I turned it on and it found my network instantly. All three printers were recognized and drivers were installed without having to fumble around with CDs or going to the printer manufacturer's websites.

I added an additional 2GB RAM because I wanted to run multiple operating systems. After installing the RAM and VMWare Fusion, Windows XP runs virtually alongside OS X with no noticeable impact in performance for either OS. I haven't had much reason to use Windows lately, but it's nice to have it ready without needing to reboot. (Of course, if you're a gamer, a PC is still probably the best platform for you)

Apple is now king in this household and we are in the process of making the switch permanently to Macs for everything. The initial cash outlay is still higher than a comparable PC, but you get what you pay for. Luckily, Amazon offered a small discount plus rebate on this when I ordered. After saving 7% in sales tax vs. buying locally and free shipping with Amazon Prime, it was downright cheap. All I know is I'm ecstatic and I'm not looking back!

5 out of 5 stars Love my Mac   July 15, 2008

Cannot say enough about this Mac. Recommend to anyone. Have been a PC user for most of my life (started on Apples in school). Mac rules. Have to use PC based computers at work, can't wait to use my Mac when not at work (sometimes at work, it is a laptop and I have a wireless connection-Sprint wireless). PS- Love the Sprint wireless, internet at pretty good speeds, virtually anywhere I go.

5 out of 5 stars Apple Is Doing It Right   July 10, 2008

We bought this MacBook to replace a Gateway tablet PC that was plagued with the usual PC problems and never lived up to the hype over Microsoft's Windows Tablet PC Edition. It was just another bloated Windows version. While Microsoft has been developing more bloat-ware (Vista), Apple has been busy building outstanding hardware and an operating system (Leopard) that is as close to rock-solid as you can get. And now that it's possible to run Windows programs on the Mac (for the few programs you might want to use that aren't available in a Mac version), there's no reason not to dump the PC and switch to a Mac. (Windows programs run faster on a Mac than on their native platform, anyway.) We're happy we switched; this little laptop is gorgeous, fast, and the battery life is better than any PC laptop we've owned. Get one--you won't be sorry.

I am happy as a clam with my new MacBook. It had been 10 years since the last upgrade so it was long overdue. I chose it over the MacBook Pro because it was lighter, doesn't dent, smaller, speedy and something like $500 less expensive!! Couldn't ask for more. Getting used to the small screen took awhile but now I'm not concerned. I'd had a 17" monitor and this one's 13". Adding Airport Extreme has made using it at home pure pleasure and I'm excited to have access to all the new apple stuff that I could only admire from afar. You'll find me sitting, standing, lying down, on my stomach, on my back, out at the picnic table, etc. with it. Trouble is it's so much more comfortable to use that I'm probably on it way too much:) The honey moon isn't over yetApple MacBook MB404LL/A 13.3" Laptop (2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, 2 GB RAM, 250 GB Hard Drive) Black.
