1 out of 5 stars Horrible   January 10, 2007

It took forever to install. It blocked all access to the internet. After I realized it was the problem, I uninstalled it, which took forever also. Once uninstalled, internet began working again. Luckily, it was part of a bundled software for a router that I purchased, so I did not waste any money, just time.

1 out of 5 stars Beware the Symantec rebate!   January 9, 2007

I've been a Symantec customer for several years, and have been fairly satisfied with the product. I am aware that there are superior products on the market, but I have always taken advantage of the rebate program that basically makes the software "free"....after going through the hassles of sending in the required receipts, POP's, etc., that is. No more!
For the past 2 years, after sending in the rebate forms, and knowing for a fact that I had everything required enclosed, I have gotten postcards from Symantec's rebate fullfillment center that my submissions were "incomplete". After calling the 800 number, and being put on hold forever, I finally got to speak to an operator that "pulled up my entries for review"...and lo and behold, it turns out that I actually did send in everything correctly, and the rebates would be processed. Great! Thing is, I wonder how many people just let it go, and Symantec keeps 50 bucks? A bunch, I'd say. Now it gets worse.
Last year, they sent me rebate checks.
This year, they sent me two Visa gift-card type things, one for $30 and one for $20. Problem is, they don't work everywhere. The literature that accompanied the cards said to tell the merchant to process it as a "credit" even though the card says "debit" on the front. So it takes some explaining just to get the thing swiped correctly, then the merchant gets a "call for authorization" message....who wants to wait for that crap? I mean, the cards are prepaid. They should work. Period. ATMs don't take them, nor automated gas pumps. My cards were turned down at Papa Johns Pizza, K-mart, Wal-mart, Target, and Kroger. I finally got the guy at the Shell station to get a $27 sale validated on the $30 card, I called it good and threw it away with 3 bucks remaining. I still have the $20 card, but if I can't get it to work I'm going to pitch it too. I'm tired of feeling like a deadbeat when these POS cards won't work and I'm holding up the checkout line. I'm through with Symantec and their rebate scams. You've been warned!

1 out of 5 stars The Best $40 I Ever Wasted   January 8, 2007

Wiping this program off my computer meant I was taking the $40 I spent on it and dumping it out the window, but it was well worth it. The program took over and slowed my computer, it peppered me with daily interruptions, and it won't even go quietly when you de-select some of the more obtrusive functions -- you keep getting pop-up reminders that turn everything back on if you don't read the pop-up carefully. Security is not worth this type of inconvenience. It's like encasing your home in a 4-foot-thick cement wall. Thieves can't get in, but then again, neither can you. Nice job, Norton.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Product   December 15, 2006
Works fine and did not slow down my computer at all. I schedule a daily scan at 4 a.m. and have always been virus free. I've used Norton Internet Security 2004, 2006, and am currently using Norton Internet Security 2007. I'n completely satisfied with the product. I had one issue with NIS 2007 which was immediately resolved via their live chat support. Waiting time approximately 4 minutes. The company even followed through with an email to ensure my problem was resolved to my satisfaction. Contrary to some reviews, Norton Internet Security can be reloaded on the same system an infinite number of times. NIS 2007 allows you to install the program on three different computers. I have it installed on two desktops and a laptop. Recently, I decided to do some house cleaning on one of my desktops and reformatted the hard drives. All programs had to be reloaded several times because of a software conflict which affected the speakers (not caused by NIS 2007). I reloaded NIS 2007 four times on the same computer without any glitches. I've been a Norton user since the early 1990's. I've tried other security programs but have always come back to Norton. I find it to be a great product.

1 out of 5 stars boneheaded   November 20, 2006

Norton Internet Security is the triumph of fear over common sense. In the middle of other activities, Norton pops up a dialogue box that says "Norton has detected a threat." It doesn't name the threat. It doesn't ecplain why the threat is occuring if you have Norton Internet Security on your computer. So if you do the cautious thing, and say "protect me" Norton shuts down all access to the internet and your e-mail. I haven't been able to turn mine back on for 4 weeks now. There's clicakble tabs and clickable categories that all take you to the same useless screens which tell you nothing actionable.
A terrible product designed by propeller-heads to please paper-pushers. Hey Norton, what if your prodcut actually communicated?
