5 out of 5 stars Great Product!   May 28, 2008

This is a great product. I upgraded from Norton Internet Security 2008.

Neither one of these products brought my computer to a slow stall like everyone claims. I can't say this will be the case for everyone, but here are the facts. I have NO SLOWDOWN issues. I am running a Sony Viao laptop with 1.8 ghz with 2gb ram. Nothing top of the line or anything.

Would recommend highly. A+

1 out of 5 stars Horrible, Bloated, and Badly Designed   May 26, 2008

I've used Norton products for years and been happy, so I was an easy sell when it came to the 2008 version. What a mistake! This is bloatware at its worst. As soon as I installed it, my computer slowed down by 50%. Internet access became excruciatingly slow, and the computer often locks up completely as Norton runs background processes. It is a huge memory sucker, causing disk thrashing and overall slow computing. There are also many annoying pop-up warnings that serve no purpose whatsoever. On top of this, the GUI is ugly, clunky, and counter-intuitive. This is a massive step backward and downward for Norton. You are crazy if you buy this. Try Comodo instead: it is free, and it actually works. Sadly, I paid for the 3 computer version, but I won't install it on either of my other machines. I'm going to just toss this in the trash: an utter waste of money and time. Just say no to this kind of badly designed, ineffective software.

1 out of 5 stars Beware the "bully" of internet security suites.   May 24, 2008

I trusted Norton for many years and when I needed them in the past it was always a costly venture. Well, the latest incident finally finished my relationship with them for good. I needed to have them remove a trojan from my computer, called tech support, and had to pay the exorbitant amount of $100.00!!! After someone remotely accessed my computer for 2 and one half hours, I was able to locate the trojan and delete it myself. I find that the company that claims to be the best in the world is just as greedy as the oil companies. You shell out enough for the product and then you are robbed blind. I later noticed that on the website, which is, for lack of a more descriptive phrase, difficult to search and find solutions, the cost of support was $69.99. Somewhere the price went up or I was deceived.
Bottom line, it does not work well, and it takes up too much space on your computer, and tech support is not even mediocre.
I have since moved to Kaspersky, which, I believe, is going to be the leader in Internet Security in future.

I've been using Norton for years with no problems. Also what I like about it are the annual tax-time rebate. This product was [...]+tax at local mainstream retailers (BB and CC etc.). I purchased it at Amazon for [...](tax free) w/ free shipping. It included [...] in rebates which I redeem annually as a repeat customer who also uses Turbotax. Thus, the product was virtually FREE! Thx Amazon!

1 out of 5 stars Norton and Samantec - Junk   May 22, 2008

I don't even know why anyone would bother with this junk. If it doesn't protect you, without you knowing, it can't update itself and forces you to re-install, and/or hack you registry. You are better off with Panda. I have been running that for 2 years now, automatic updates and virus protection are top notch and it never, ever hosed my system up or forced me to reinstall it. Oh, McAfee and Norton are variations on the theme, wouldn't bother with either. Good luck though.
