Act 2008 disaster April 1, 2008 3 out of 6 found this review helpful
I'm a business owner in San Diego with 8 users on Act. We've used Act since the 2003 release, this year we "upgraded" to 2008. Please, whatever you do, do not buy Act 2008. It has been a complete nightmare, I've had to reinstall at least 7 times, currently I'm on the phone with their tech support department, its been over 4 hours! Its a mess, stay away, you will lose money. Act 2006 was fairly stable, stick with that version and transfer your data to another system as soon as you can afford it.
Not My Normal Upgrade March 15, 2008 7 out of 11 found this review helpful
For the past 10 years I have upgraded ACT every year. The last 3 years have been miserable. I just couldn't go through it again. I found a conversion program for $200 which moved all my data from ACT to Outlook. The upgrade to ACT 2008 was offered to current customers for $139. Why would I spend $200 to convert? The program does not work for me and created more problems than it solved. Like others, 1 star is a lot more than I want to give this program.

I give it 0 star, it is horrible software, slow, no work for us at all, I already threw them to the garbage, It's worthless.
Beyond horrible! Run, don't walk, from this version! March 1, 2008 7 out of 10 found this review helpful
I've been using ACT since it ran on a DOS machine, but the latest versions are beyond horrible -- they don't run on 64-bit machines. I can't find a single written document from them that makes that statement but tech support admits the problem -- once you've installed it but can't get it running. I had ACT 2007, then upgraded to 2008 only to discover it was even worse. I've uninstalled both of them but my computer is now so unstable I'm going to have to reformat the hard drive to get rid of the glitches. The only good thing about ACT 2008 is that they cheerfully refunded my money. Please, please, please don't install this program unless you're all backed up and want to spend a day or two reformatting your hard drive and reinstalling your other programs! And, if you're like me and half your life is in your ACT database, don't upgrade from version 6. It's the only one that even half-way pretends to be exportable to another program. Sage should be ashamed of themselves for what they've done to a program I've loved and recommended for running up on 20 years!
Act 6.0 is the only fix February 17, 2008 5 out of 8 found this review helpful
I switched back to Act 6.0 by emailing my database to a consultant who transformed it back from the dreaded Act 8.0, after I lost about 3 months of production in attempting to do basic jobs. You can still buy 6.0 on the web and it's fast and does everything you need very well, I do not know if it works with Vista but we have not put any of our office production machines on that travesty either. An excellent book on Act 6.0 by Brad Sandy "101 Sales Tools Using Act" can be purchased on Amazon too! In sumnation do not buy any Act program higher than 6.0 and you'll be very happy.
