HOW TO GET IT TO WORK WITH WORD 2000 July 14, 2008 IF YOU HAVE AN ANCIENT DELL DEMINSION 733 MHZ PC. WITH WORD 2000. THE SOFTWARE WITH IT WILL NOT WORK TO IT'S FULL POTENTIAL. IF YOU WISH JUST TO HAVE ENCARTA KIDS AND ENCARTA STUDENT/DICTIONARY. HERE ARE SOME STEPS THAT ALLOWED IT TO WORK ON MINE. 1. LOAD DISC AND ALLOW IT TO AUTO RUN. IT NEEDS TO LOAD UP NET 2.0 IT WILL TAKE ABOUT 5 MINUTES. IT WILL THEN STATE IT IS DONE LOADING IT UP AND WILL STATE IT WILL INSTALL LEARNING ESSENTIALS. do not allow it to do so. it will hose you word 2000. hit your disc eject button. take the disc out. your system will tell there is a problem and insert it again. ignore it. manually restart your pc. 2. ONCE PC IS RESTARTED INSERT DISC AND GO TO MY COMPUTER AND DRIVE WITH ENCARTA. OPEN THE ENCARTA DISC UP (EXPORE). YOU WILL SEE THREE SETUP EXECUTE FOLDERS PLUS VARIOUS OTHERS. THE EASIST WAY TO FIND WHICH ONE WILL INSTALL ENCARTA KIDS AND THE STUDENT ENCARTA IS TO OPEN THE ONE THAT WILL STATE ENCARTA KIDS. IF YOU HAPPEN TO OPEN THE WRONG ONE. JUST CLOSE IT AND FIND THE ONE THAT WILL STATE ENCARTA KIDS. DOUBLE CLICK ON IT. ALLOW IT TO INSTALL IN YOUR HARD DRIVE. (MUCH SURE YOU HAVE ROOM. IT'S ABOUT 3G) ONCE IT IS DONE. RESTART. ICONS WILL BE ON YOUR DESKTOP. YOU CAN USE IT WITHOUT THE DISC. YOU JUST WON'T BE ABLE TO USE IT TO OPEN ANY WORD DOCUMENTS BECAUSE YOU NEED OFFICE 2003 OR BETTER. ENJOY THE ENCARTA. (OH YOU CAN DO ALL THE UPDATES ON IT TOO)
MS Student 2007 not recommended November 17, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am a secondary math teacher looking for software resources of which MS Student will not be included. I utilize other electronic curriculums and am familiar with (& own)other programs on the market for Algebra, and was very disappointed that Student 2007 contained very little actual text book source info, contrary to several reviews that deceived me. It is ok as a supplement to text books, particularly where a graphing calculator is used, but will not tutor students as claimed in a systematic fashion. Student 2007 disappoints me because it claims: "In one convenient package, Microsoft Student 2007 provides students with templates, organizational tools, tutorials, translator tools, and a just about everything else they'll need to finish -- and ace! -- their French homework, algebra exam and research papers." Wrong choice for algebra. Glad I only bought one copy for me.
Great Educational Tool!!! March 25, 2007 I've been using this product for awhile, and I'm delighted with it. I got my Algebra I Homework done in 1/5 the time it usually takes me! In addition to this, when I feel like learning, I watch some of the Discovery Channel videos that are included with this. Even better is that this product comes with a $[...], reducing its overall price to $[...]. Today I'm going to use it to help me write a five paragraph essay.
I love Microsoft Student with Encarta Premium 2007, and you will too! Buy it! Trust me, you WON'T be disappointed.
Wonderful encyclopedia January 31, 2007 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I love Microsoft Student with Encarta Premium 2007 (boy is that a tounge roller!)! It's a serves as a great encyclopedia, and it's very useful. I don't however use the "Student" part so much. The Student Part, really just has to do with Office programs, and making nice charts, graphs, book reports, and stuff, and I don't usually do that. I've been using it since October 2006, and it comes in handy. I do like it's online feature, so that you can access quality Encarta info. from anyplace with internet connection (although you have to activate it yourself, by going to File > Encarta on the Web, which I would never have know of until I poked around) So it's neat to get good Encarta info. right from the web, which last only for a year. I like how the menu bar got less cluttered. It's relatively simple now. They display the content very well and organized. Overall it's good. But there are problems. Here's the basic pros and cons of it all.
Pros: - multimedia is awesome - content is displayed very nice - web feature is very handy anywhere - student tools are easy to use, and instructive - menu bar got less cluttered - Encarta Kids is actually great for kids - it's just really simple and nice
Cons: - No Automatic updates : I want it to update on it's own, without me having to press the update button - there really isn't usually a lot of info. on topics, like for example, if you look at the articles for Dragon in Encarta and Wikipedia, Encarta has 2 pictures, and 3 paragraphs, while Wikipedia has 8 pictures, and many paragraphs about it. Can't they do better? - takes while to install, and takes up a good amount of hard drive, although you can always just use it on the CD if you want to, but I prefer not having to drop in the CD everytime to use it.
That's really about it. I just wish Microsoft could have done more to it. Encarta has the potential being in every school around the country if there was a reason to do so. Like maybe you could read e-books in it, download skins & more from the Encarta site, be the basic things teachers and students could use at school if there was good reason to. Most of it sounds superficial, but I've got a lot of ideas how to make the future-gen Encarta to be the most ultimate learning thing in the world. I just at least hope in the next version, they provide more info. in their articles, along with more multimedia. I also want their to be skins that you could change, and that the articles could even be put in simpler use. I just want it to be better, and it really didn't fill my expectations like I thought it would, which is why I gave it 4 stars. I'm usually a big fan over Microsoft products (sorry Apple fans) but Encarta seems to disappoint me a bit. Overall though, it's really good, just not something you should completely think of spending your money on.
Grandkids approval says it all.... January 18, 2007 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I gave my grandson, ages 12 & 15, the Microsoft Student with Encarta Premium 2007 for Christmas. I thought it would be a wonderful aide in the subjects they were studing at school. However, my concern was..."Would it be difficult to navigate and not be used or would they even use it enough to discover all the benefits of the software?"
Well, they are raving about how great it has been in assisting them with their schoolwork...especially in Geometry and Algebra. Mom loves it too because the math help not only gives the answer but explains the steps on how to arrive at the answer.
For my book...money well spent. It is so hard to buy a gift for teenagers that they get excited about... especially one that pertains to schoolwork. I was well pleased with their excitement about the product. I was satisfied with how easy the program was to use.
Use the product once and you will find a live-in tutor.
