A MAXIS Fan's Nightmare November 3, 2008 12 out of 14 found this review helpful
How worse can a game get? a 3d model tool kit that is made into a series of mini-games. Fancy but doesn't give any new exciting experience at all! Would want my money back. Don't buy. Save your good money for good worthy games.
I Don't Understand All The Hate... November 3, 2008 6 out of 28 found this review helpful
I'm used to not agreeing with the masses; I never have, really. My tastes by far in everything from cuisine to music to film to home decoration to the mid-level luxury import I drive almost always end up hovering way above what most people content themselves with striving after or holding in high regard, so I was expecting to be part of a smaller group of society that 'gets' SPORE. But this is ridiculous! I've never seen a situation like this! I happily browsed over to amazon.com to rate the game and was just shocked to see the thousands of low ratings out there. I'd really like to get some demographics on the naysayers - I'm just baffled!
I LOVE this game. I've had it for three days now and I can hardly put it down. It's fascinating. I've enjoyed every stage so far. OK, sure, it's not terrifically challenging, but it's highly entertaining! It's relaxing! It's inspiring! It's beautiful to look at (on a high-end machine like mine). I just don't see what's not to love. The near-limitless variance in what possible outcomes could arise from playing a different race under different circumstances and style are just mind-boggling and I'm already looking forward to starting a new Civilization (I'm on my first). Perhaps it's too sophisticated in concept for some people and changes too often? Each stage is almost a completely different game all by itself. Perhaps it's not challenging enough? Although some of the aspects of the game are a bit tricky, as far as a challenge I'm definitely not getting the adrenaline rush I got from playing Bioshock, for example. But, it's NOT SUPPOSED TO BE that kind of game! It's a fun, casual and relaxing SIM, for chrissakes! What were these naysayers expecting? I just don't get why they hate this game so much.
I'm definitely no slouch when it comes to gaming - I've been playing all kinds of different titles from shooters to RPGs to puzzle-games to SIMS and have multiple platforms in my home, so although I'm no expert, I think I know the difference between a good title and a schlocky title (*COUGH* Adventure Company *COUGH*). If you're longing for something different, something you can casually lose yourself for hours in without feeling your heart pounding through your chest, something you can play to relax, something that appeals to your intellect and creativity, something that won't ever be a traditional shooter or challenge-SIM with high-anxiety stressors and huge explosions or earthquakes, then give SPORE a try. I think it's just wonderful. =)
Great Game November 3, 2008 1 out of 12 found this review helpful
Great game. Definitely an different playing experience. It wasn't the greatest game as far as game play goes but it's definitely an interesting experience. I found the creature stage most entertaining. As you go through the stages everything becomes more and more up to how you design it both in looks and performance. If you want to spend hours building an awesome fortification in the civilization stage its def the game for you. I, on the other hand, don't have that kind of time to devote to a game nor the patience. So for people like me you can choose from buildings other people have designed, which is an awesome feature. Perhaps I'm not a big build-and-destroy guy but I didn't find the gameplay in some stages very thrilling. Overall a solid game. I hope they improve on this one with a second one because there's definitely alot of potential to make this game mind-blowing.
Most of the other reviews are reviewing the DRM not the actual playing experience.

People think this game is DRM infrected. It's not. I got Spore and it doesn't mess with my computer at all. I even checked my computer for SecuROM. It wasn't there. Start ordering! This game is safe!
