glad I downloaded the trial version October 31, 2007 6 out of 40 found this review helpful
This only reinforces my belief that there is no good editing software for the PC. I am an editor. I intuitively figured out how to do basics with Final Cut Express. Vegas Movie Studio is not "editing."
After further review...VMS8 is a Touchdown! October 28, 2007 12 out of 13 found this review helpful
Used Adobe Premiere Elements 3 til 4 came out and fudged on AMD processors, alleged direct uploading to uTube and what to me was a dumbing down of the tool itself along with an $80 upgrade cost. So I moved to demos of Premiere Pro, Vegas Pro 8, Liquid 7 and VideoStudio 11 and Pinnacle Studio Ultimate 11. It was a throw up between PSU11 and Vegas til I decided on the lesser Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 8. I am VERY happy with my choice. Runs great on my AMD system, is more stable than Pinnacle Ultimate, and in my opinion more professional in look and feel than Premiere Elements and VideoStudio. More difficult to learn? Perhaps...but more rewarding therein. My specialty is Video and multimedia for the web so Vegas Pro 8 was beyond me for now and Premiere Pro waaaaay beyond me but an excellent program. The thing is, is I can see myself upgrading to Vegas Pro down the road with no complaints as I really enjoyed it. So my pick for best of the best Home / Studio Video Editors would hands down be Sony Vegas Movie Studio 8 for it's professional look and feel, useability, features, excellent DVD Architect software, and just about having everything I need to get my job done. Well done Sony...I don't see how they seem to fly under the radar of the packages.
Think Twice before buying Sony Vegas Movie Studio October 25, 2007 17 out of 29 found this review helpful
I am sure that this software performs as good as advertised, but I will never know. Sony does not currently and does not plan to support the 64-bit operating systems. Claimed to be high-end, but not really. I had to buy the software and go through the wonderful experience of installing and seeing the error "does not support Windows 64-bit". Although there is not a single line of info on Sony's website eluding to this fact, I had to call tech support (cost me $15) for them to tell me it does not support 64-bit. When I asked them how I could find this warning on the box/website/reviews, the rep replied that it did not say that it "did" support 64-bit. Guess I'll have to try other software. Or be a Lemming and switch back to slower 32 bit performing hardware and software. I expected more from Sony.
What a concept, works as advertised and worth the price! October 21, 2007 23 out of 24 found this review helpful
It would be really hard for me to be more impressed with Sony Movie Studio 8 Platinum. I'm a prepurchase research junkie and wanted to get editing software to go with my first video camera, a Canon HV20 hi def tape based machine. I spent hours on the various user group web sites both professional and consumer and consistently this product seemed to have the edge. Major thanks to Sony for making the free 30 day trail available. It allowed me to thoroughly test and ring out the product to make sure it would do what I wanted. I couldn't give it a higher recommendation. I have NO experience with video editing but after playing with this software for an entire weekend I was able to capture my Hi Def footage of my son's football game, get it into my strong but not "state of the art" laptop via firewire, edit the heck out of it, add transitions, special effects, graphics, titles, captions, and credits. I was able to easily rip music from a couple of CDs and add background music, balance with the recorded sound and best of all write the hi def finished product back to tape so I could present my finished move. The trial does not include the DVD creation software so I can't review that but I did create a web version of the movie without trouble. I don't want to pretend that the software is "point and click" easy to use. Let's face it, working with hi def video is new technology, complex, and I didn't expect a completely intuitive product. You have to do all the "show me hows" which will give you a high level understanding of the feature but then you MUST spend time in the help system and be willing to read a bit to learn how to use the features. For those willing to dig in there and find the info you can create an amazing product for under $100.
Won't open AVCHD files from Panasonic Camorders October 18, 2007 14 out of 26 found this review helpful
Sony claims this product can open AVCHD files. It can't. Sony wasted two hours and $100 of my hard-earned time and money.
Don't buy this product if you need AVCHD editing. It's not supported, despite the documentation.
