5 out of 5 stars Pleased with roxio's programs for both pc and Mac   August 13, 2008

I've now had the chance to use roxio's Mac version, Toast 9 and see that it has enough technical differences with Easy Media to own both. It isn't just a matter of having to different OS's.
My biggest problem with version 9 was the installation but since I'm now a Vista user I went with version 10. I no longer had the program asking to initialize each program before using. Instead it went straight to working wihtout any warnings. It was the same pc too. I don't know if this is Windows or Roxio or both but the results were better. This saved a lot of headaches.

The look of the product has really changed, all positive. Some odd apps are now in categories that make more sense. It also makes sense to put the audio recorder app in the Windows toolbar since you never know when you may want to use it. I will record audio from interviews, even if there's picture because I don't have time to watch the whole thing. Then I use the program to send it to my iPod and listen at my convenience.

I was able to learn a lot about video editing from version 9. Ver. 10 has a few more features. As long as I upgraded I got Deluxe to get the Pinacle converter. It took no learning time and was as simple as plug and convert. There are a lot of themes available in cinemagic so you don't have to search around for graphics. It's easy to make a vacation or birthday video and have a set of menus ready. Videowave is easier than it looks. It works in tracks so you can manipulate each track and together they change the video. It's not drastically different than version 9, but it was enough for me to change.

1 out of 5 stars I really wish this had worked......   August 10, 2008
I really wish this had worked...

I had great success with using previous versions of Roxio Creator in the past - but this version 10 is the exception. It's not like I should be surprised, I read all the negative reviews here, but there were a couple of positive ones as well - so based on my previous experiences I took a chance.

The software installed fine, but even from the start I could tell that it ran slow... and it also slowed down my machine with all the stuff it was running in the background. I think I could have lived with that, as it did do a lot of what it was suppose to do. But the thing that made me uninstall it completely, was that it had the effect of making the audio of any video that was played in any player (like the regular Windows Media Player) play at a greatly reduced level. Even with all the settings cranked up to 11, you could barely hear the audio. And even worse, it had the same effect on anything that I tried to record - no matter what program you used. Systems sounds work fine, just the playback / recorded audio was affected. I tried everything to fix this audio problem - updated everything, downloaded drivers and reinstalled. Nothing worked. Uninstalled the complete Creator 10 package and now everything works fine! Just like it did before I installed the software. Well, I'll keep the software on the shelf for now - maybe some day they will get around to releasing a patch to make it work.... Just in case someone wonders, I'm running XP, not Vista.

1 out of 5 stars Absolutely worthless....   August 2, 2008

Since I blew $110 on the software I was going to try to stick it out, but after fighting this horrible software an the non-existent support from Roxio I have written it off as money down the toilet. The capture hardware is crap, but if you capture at maximum quality you do get about normal quality on other cheap capture devices. The software is painfully slow and buggy. Moving from frame to frame in the menu creator can take up to 30 seconds, encoding takes 3-4 hours per disk, and any time you try to make a menu or burn a project all you get is "error 8007000e" I have a new system, and several other free DVD packages work great, but I wanted something that was an all in one and more powerful. This is a complete waste of money, and I regret the purchase and the 30 - 40 hours I fought this program before I gave up and scrapped it for Movie Maker. Do not buy this app!!

5 out of 5 stars New features make this almost perfect   July 23, 2008

My first try with Roxio easy media was version 9 with the Dazzle video converter. The bundle gave me a method of turning all my tapes into digital media. I waited a bit for the price drop of 10 since 9 wasn't that old and I'm astounded at how different, yet similar it is. At first glance 10 doesn't look very different than 9 but there are now a bunch of new things that make it a different enough program.
Video with Videowave and cinemagic: each program has a few more options from 9. The biggest change I found was the soundtrack. It is now much easier to do. It also edits HD video. None too soon considering tv broadcast changes.
Music: Biggest changes here. It makes batch formatting changes and rips disks from several drives at once. The automix is more elaborate.
Photo: It makes autofixes. If I don't like the results I can use the manual setting changes. More album adn slideshow formats.
Gadgets: This is new and makes the program a step above others. I can take any media file and convert it to my phone and ipod. It works the other way by sending media to the pc from the gadgets.
Disk burning: Burning is relatively the same but complementary tools are better. It catalogs the disk contents, something I felt was needed in 9. I see that it can copy HD and blueray disks, but I don't have the proper burners yet to test.
For anyone wanting to convert tapes I would recommend this program, regardless of what converter you have. I don't see any need for any side programs to finish media projects.
