5 out of 5 stars Reliable converter; software suite goes beyond video functions   June 13, 2008

I can say that I have nothing but the best luck with this software. I'm using Windows Vista. Maybe I'm one of the few who prefers Vista to XP, but I like the visual aspect of the OS and how Easy Media blends right in. Vista itself though doesn't seem to have a huge leap from the folder tree. Easy Media also uses this tree to see the media files but there is the option of switching to media type. With this mode I can see all the video, photo, audio files at once. If only the default was set this way but I think most people seem to like the tradtional Windows folder view.

Features are packed. If you are like me and have older media it doesn't take much to make it into modern formats. The Pinnacle video converter will work with this suite and transfer video footage into digital. There's no getting around playing in real time though. Good thing the conversion only takes a little longer than the playing time. Of course I want to edit and tag the video. I've used cinemagic so that it will separate the credits and ads. It seems to read pauses and makes the cuts. I can add titles too. Programs to complete the project include a label maker, a disk menu maker and even ipod conversion. I've only covered video but there's a lot more for photos and audio. I've become a long time user and I haven't seen anything as complete as the roxio suite.

5 out of 5 stars 2 Different companies but they work in harmony   June 7, 2008

When hardware and software are created by different companies and sold separately the results are not always harmonious. Once I plugged in the converter the pc loaded the driver. I was able to use Roxio's software and it had a line item for the Dazzle device. I was antsy about loading such a big program especially since they are not video related. However this program deals with playing devices and resizes and converts the video files automatically for my ipod. I've also converted some home video and added music. I'm glad I went with the big program and didn't rely on just a video program, otherwise I'd still be looking for programs.

5 out of 5 stars Great Software for Digital Media   May 28, 2008

I already have a Pinnacle converter but the software is the same so my review is relevant. Hope it helps.
There's a lot of opinions and the diversity may be due to the wide range of computers and configurations. My new Epson printer doesn't work with Vista so nothing can be taken for granted. Begin with your pc specs-- mine is a Vista 2GB RAM, AMD Turion 64 x 2. No where near top of the line but should be more than adequate for digital media. Disk Authoring is still the greatest strength in Easy Media. Everyone has their preference for digital editing, but I have not found anything more straight forward than Roxio's disk burning programs. Some people blame the program for makng bad disks but this program removes many user errors. It's possible to pick the wrong format for a disk and this program helps by recognizing the blank disk and listing the best possibilities. It is also more reliable to make a virtual disk and copy from there than to do a direct disk to disk copy. The track by track method is longer and more prone to errors. I did find that the utilities were able to fix some disk errors. No program can burn 100% error free so a good utility is essential.

Video Editing is more complete than I thought possible in a suite. First there are 2 completely different video programs. One is simple and can be used right away. the other--videowave is a complete video editor. I'm not attached to any other program so I didn't mind learing the ins and outs. In short it works by layers so you can take sections and add/delete sound and effects. Photosuite is much like other programs although it isn't for pixel editing. But it does have more advanced features than normal suite programs like quick redeye deletion, cloning, brightness and contrast adjustment. Audio editing is again complete if not the most advanced program available. I noticed the sound capture program which isn't so common. It makes playlists and also has the unique feature of automatic song info insertion. Is it too much? Maybe if you already have programs for digital media. For me it is much simplier to have all the programs together and linked. Also I don't have to worry about upgrading individual programs and can stick to the one suite.

5 out of 5 stars Good for video projects and more   May 20, 2008

I was very happy with Creator 9 and would not have upgraded except that I wanted to get rid of my VHS tapes once and for all. I got Deluxe for a good price and thought that as long as I was getting a converter it wouldn't cost much more to get the latest version. I don't know why others claim to have such problems. Both versions 9 and 10 work wonderful. During install I did have a problem with 10 but I didn't uninstall version 9 completely. I ran the uninstall again and then 10 installed perfectly. I don't think it took any longer than installing Office so expect a long waiting time.

The converter is not top of the line but it certainly works. I didn't notice any frames dropping during conversion. Of course the quality was also determined by my original recording. The video editing software had tools to adjust the quality a bit. I used it more for editing though like cutting out ads. I also liked that I could take snapshots from the video and then use them for the dvd menu. Although I'm used to making dvds for my pc I tried burning them for the dvd player. I was able to navigate and play them on the tv. The dvd copy utility made the copy quickly. There is a label creator too so I didn't all the necessary programs were in the suite. A new feature in 10 is the 'send to YouTube' utility. I've analyzed the video programs but the music and photo programs are just as good.

1 out of 5 stars Gave up   May 14, 2008
I could never get EMC 10 installed. This was after almost two weeks of trying. In addition to Roxio Tech Support I tried any other install recomendations that I could find on the Roxio site as well as others found by Googling. Tech support in their next to last communication indicated that they were sure there was nothing wrong with the software, and that they thought that I should reformat my hard drive and reinstall Windows Vista and then try installing EMC 10. I replied saying that I felt their product should be sold to work on an existing operating system and not the other way around. I also told them that hopefully in the future they would correct the install issues and when they did to please let me know. Their response was that EMC 10 was working on millions of computers world wide. They did not however indicate how many millions of computers that EMC 10 does not work on. This is the first software program that I've have not been able to install sucessfully. The bottom line, POOR PROGRAM, POOR SUPPORT, which makes for a POOR COMPANY.
