1 out of 5 stars Avoid at all Cost   February 25, 2008

In all of my years of computing (and I'm some what of a geek), this is easily the worst software package I've ever thrown money away on. It does not install properly (even after several clean re-installs), those programs that work seem to conk-out right as they're nearing the finishing line. A major waste of $$$ and time.

1 out of 5 stars Don't use with Vista   February 8, 2008
I was wanting to convert my VHS tapes to DVD so I purchased Creator 10 deluxe. I have Vista ultimate on my computer, which up till now I have had no problems with. The capture program caused my computer to crash hard. After getting the system up & running again, I tried the capture program again. I had video but no sound. I had to put the disk in & repair the software to get the sound back. While trying the capture program again it caused the computer to crash. Talking to roxio, they said that I did not get a clean install. They said to remove all traces of sonic/roxio from my hard drive & registry & try again. Ater the computer crashed the second time, the program disappeared, but left parts of itself behind that I have not been able to remove. I tried to reinstall so I could uninstall hoping it would remove the leftover parts but after two hours trying to load the software I gave up & using the disk tried to uninstall. That did not work either. It may say that it is desinged for Vista, but I will never use it again.

2 out of 5 stars It will do everything you could ask for in this type of software...you just have to give it a couple of years to load   February 5, 2008

Install...took a while but ok, I've had other software that takes a while to load and it turns out just fine. First test; copy a dvd. That took a little longer than I would have hoped, around 15 minutes. The result however was a perfectly duplicated dvd, no complaints. Next task; build a slideshow. Problem 1, software crashes first time trying to open the slideshow component. Opens successfully on the next attempt. Selecting videos to import is straight forward. I attempt to load a large album that I have, approx. 1650 photos. This takes about 10 minutes...good thing I had some internet shopping to do while I waited. While it did this task it managed also to use up 70% of my 4 gigs of memory....wow....good thing I have all 4. Next step in the process after hitting burn to DVD requires that a new component be opened to create edit the DVD menu, which takes another 10 minutes to open...now I'm getting short on patience. With the menu I created I was ready to burn the disk. I hit the create DVD button and watch my vista hour-glass pointer spin seemingly pointlessly for a couple of minutes. Then pops up a screen; Cannot copy, items exceed 999...Well, why didn't you just say so in the first place before I wasted a half hour trying this.I'm writing this article while I wait for another process to complete but I have a feeling this software is headed straight for the old recycle bin. Do yourself a favour, go do something more productive than sit and wait for this program to do relatively simple tasks...and don't waste your money.

5 out of 5 stars Failed others, but worked nicely for me, I LOVE IT   January 29, 2008

I must admit, that after reading all the sad and down right poor reviews on Amazon, I was feeling a little sick that I'd already ordered Easy Media Creator 10 Deluxe Suite.

I fully expected a complete installation failure and all the problems mentioned by others, that I would have to painstakingly work my way through. BUT, I was pleasantly surprised by my experience and wanted to share here.

I'm a long time user of MyDVD software and had already been using Easy Media Creator 8 & 9 on separate systems. Prior to that, I was using My Sonic Suite and have always had great success. My primary purpose in purchasing EMC10, is that I'm uploading short videos to YouTube and this program promised seamless formatted uploading of video pro-mos.

Here is the product and computer system information as a reference:

EASY MEDIA CREATOR 10 DELUXE SUITE P/N 235800 Rev A

First system I installed the program on is:
Dell Inspiron 1720
Windows Vista Home Premium
Windows Media Player for Vista came installed.
Intel Core 2 DUO CPU T7250 @ 2.00 GHZ
RAM 2.00 GB
32 BIT O.S.
DISPLAY NIVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS

F-Secure anti-virus program was left running during installation, had to defeat one alert during the 29 minute and 16 seconds it took to install the Standard (recommended) program installation.

Installation went without interruption and no errors

Shut down and re-start took 3 minutes and 47 seconds.

Performed Registration and checked for Roxio program updates.

Installed one critical update: 455.00 kb, Dated 2007-10-26
(open tools.. pick options... select "check for updates) update download 2 seconds (broadband internet)

Opened program first time, after updates installed. Very slow first time around, but the more I used and experimented with the program, the quicker it became.

Created and uploaded a video to youtube. Smooth and trouble free.

Experimented with all texting/titling fancy functions and video effects.. added music tracks and overlayed/layered functions and effects. No problems.

Fantastic array of functionality. Burned one single layer DVD and then one double layer DVD. Fast and smooth. ***Performs a Disc Verification after burning a disc, this process takes longer than the burn, but I feel it's worth it to have the disc integrity verified before I mail something out or give it to a friend only to find a functionality flaw.

NEXT INSTALLATION ON DESKTOP PC

As the installation and operation on my laptop was a success, I thought I'd venture to running the program on my primary work horse desk top, here are the specs:

DELL XPS410
Windows XP Media Center Edition Version 2002 (SP-2)
Intel Core 2cpu 6600 2.40 GHZ
2.39 GHZ, 2.00 GB RAM

Minimum requirement by program is Media Player 10 or better. I checked at the Media Player update center online and found that they recommend new Media Player 11 for my operating system. So, I did the update to Media Player 11 and after install, that had an update also.

Re-Started the system.

Uninstalled all prior versions of Media Creator and removed MySonic and My DVD programs. Re-Started the system

Inserted the ROXIO EASY MEDIA CREATOR 10 DELUXE SUITE (EMC10)

Installation chosen was the one recommended by the program (standard installation), this means that later some functions or add ons may require you to insert the program disk for them to load and be used.

Installation took 18 minutes and 29 seconds. Absolutely smooth sailing. As with the laptop, I left the antivirus program running (trend micro antivirus on this system) by the way, I prefer Trend Micro Antivirus to the F-Secure program.. smoother and quicker!

No bumps during installation.

Restarted computer and as the computer re-started, it went through a very lengthy cycle of re-structuring and arranging my files. This was a lengthy process, which took around 45 minutes before the processor and hard drive relaxed again. The pc ran at 25% capacity for this entire time. I left it alone while it aligned my files and sytem. My pc has around 175 gigs of photos and movie files on it, so this could explain the lengthy organizing phase.

Went through registration and updates as on the laptop. No problems.

Shut down and re-started the system.

The first time around, each program function is slow to start, but upon exiting and re-starting, the programs load faster as my PC recognizes them as frequently used.

For movie editing and receiving various files from digital equipment, this program is a winner for me! I'm absolutely ecstatic not to have had the problems so many others posting have mentioned.

I think, with this program, slow and steady during initial installation can make the difference possibly, or, maybe REV A and the online Update, partnered with running the latest version of Windows Media Player can smooth out any potential problems.

So, I definitely recommend this program to anyone wanting to control everything on their DVD movies, or wants to organize and make presentations with digital media of any kind. IF, I find there is a bug in the system, I will certainly post another review of this version of EMC to let you know about it and how I managed the problem..

OH, also, there is a promise of a $30.00 rebate on the box. I couldn't read the fine print online... you must have a prior version, which I do.... Along with original purchase information/receipts... "which I don't" have... so, I could not claim the rebate.

For me, it's still worth the investment! Hope this review helps someone make a decision.

After reading so many of these current negative reviews, their is no way I want to try Easy Creator 10.

Pinnacle Studio software latest version 11 has worked great with my video on a Vista Ultimate OS. Sony's Vegas Pro is a bit of disappointment. Vegas Pro comes with two programs to install and they fail to integrate smoothly together. When hooking up a Pinnacle USB 500 video capture device, Vegas Pro locked up three times and worked on the fourth.
