4 out of 5 stars Good product; great price with $20 rebate   December 25, 2007

Although a computer professional, I'm not really into digital photography. A number of years ago, I bought a digital camera and have used it consistently for the last six years, editing my pictures with Photoshop Elements 2.0. With this upgrade to Elements 6.0, I find that there are many more things that I can do, and many things are easier to do that they were with 2.0. When you consider that the upgrade has a $20 rebate, making the final price only $49, it's a tremendous bargain for an excellent piece of software.

My son, who uses Photoshop CS 3 regularly, says that this new Elements has the same look and feel and seems to be a nice proper subset of CS3.

Elements 6 is the standard of the industry, although it has a painfully slow learning curve. The Organizer which comes with it is more difficult to use than sticking with the Microsoft Windows standard with respect to initial cataloging. It does have some great features however.

The power of the editing functions are great, but there is no usable documentation except the menu driven help menu. "Elements 6 for Dummies", or "Elements 6, the Missing Manual" are both good books to use with this program, if you are new to Photoshop like me. Both became available in late December 2007.

The program stops working after 15 minutes of searching for photos for the organizer. Their Technical Support line charges $29. Note I have a brand new quad core processor computer with Vista Premium.
Picass is much bewtter for photo organizing and it is free!

1 out of 5 stars Avoid this release!   December 21, 2007

I have been using Photoshop Elements since the first release and have upgraded immediately as each new release came out. This is first time I have regretted it.

This release is buggy and slow. The hourglass icon is active at least half of the time. Screen refresh is seriously broken- I get artifacts all over the PE window. It acts like its running on a 386, rather than a nearly new high-end dual-core machine. It's crashed a dozen times.

A few things are better- it does import new pictures much quicker.

The User Interface is all new- for no particular reason- and difficult to navigate. I could deal with that ... if there weren't so many bugs ... and the simply unreal lagtime in doing anything ... anything!

I uninstalled and reverted to PE 5, which runs great. And am eyeing the similar Corel app. Guess I will consider it a $100 lesson to check the reviews first before upgrading..

2 out of 5 stars Photo Software   December 21, 2007

Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.0 software is OK, but it was difficult to use, and results were not what I expected. The software could be great for someone with more akills then the average photo person. So many options in the software, made the software too difficult, to just adjust a photo. I use the MS Picture-It software. MS software is alot easier for me, to do simple adjustments.Adobe Photoshop Elements 6
