Nero * ultra edition is a foot dragging juggernaut . The loading time is irritatingly slow . I found the program to be very user unfriendly . The controls which at first seem to be intuitive lead to false starts on simple projects like photo transfers to CD . I finally pulled it off my computer because it would come up as the default photo browser at times which meant waiting for the program to load , only to get a message that Nero could not read the file . I'll stick with my adobe and windows media for photo and CD file burning . They're not fancy but they actually work .
Nero 8 is Great May 29, 2008 I used Nero at work and needed it at home to create a DVD from an ISO image that I had downloaded on my Windows Vista System for my Linux box. After getting past the learning curve, the product did what I wanted and is great. I like it better than Roxio Easy CD.

I love this product. It's great for all types of media and it's helped me back up my video and photo files!

If you are looking for a one-size-fits-all suite it comes down to a choice between Nero and EMC. People complain that the 200MB Nero download is bloated. EMC just released *an update* and it's 750MB! It's true that Nero is a bit less user friendly. However, how much does user friendliness matter if you can't get the software installed, or worse if it destroys your computer. That didn't happen to me but looking at the EMC forum it sure happened to lots of other people.
From my personal experience, the download was quick and the installation was painless. I've used both and if I had my way then EMC would work as advertised and it's what I would use. Given that it doesn't even come close to that, I'll save the few bucks, deal with the slightly more draconian interface and somewhat annoying slow startup time, and get things done with Nero.
On the down side is the atrocious support provided by Nero. There is no official forum so you have to depend either on spotty posts spread around the net or contact Nero directly. For that you have three choices:
1) You can call their technical support number. It costs $1.29 per minute, charged to your credit card, and I've never tried it.
2) You can email their technical support department. It's a lot like praying; you can talk, they might listed, but you never hear anything back.
3) You can take advantage of the 10 days of free tech support that comes with the product. That allows you to call a long distance number and listen to bad music until either you get bored and hang up or until their phone system says "good by" and hangs up on you.
So what's this mean? Well if you're tech savy and don't expect to have any problems/issues (with Nero anyway) then it's probably the better of the two. If you are thinking you might need tech support then EMC may be a better choice (and with it you definitely *will* need tech support.

I have always enjoyed using previous versions of Nero & this one doesn't disappoint. Has all the extras you come to expect from a product like Nero
