2 out of 5 stars Watch out for this one!   May 14, 2008

Read the fine print: This is a watered-down version of Nero8 that WILL burn .VOB, .BUP, and .IFO files to make a playable DVD, but other features are limited or non-existent without purchasing upgrades. Caveat emptor!

5 out of 5 stars The perfect burning program   May 13, 2008

Nero 8 Ultra Edition I've been using Nero for my data, video and audio burning needs for several years now. Nero 8 is the best program yet. It has many convenient new features and some problems I had when recording audio with nero 7 seem to have been fixed.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent after tough beginning   May 7, 2008

Installation a little slow, but not too bad. All I wanted to do was copy some files to DVDs to transfer to new computer. Sounds easy right?
Quickly got to BackItUp. Hoping to just ease my way through without having to study a manual. They have impressive tutorials for other tasks, not data back up. After fumbling around for about 15 minutes, I went online & printed 63 pages describing how to do it. The printed info doesn't match reality, but close enough to do the copy, by page 13.

It seems OK, but won't know until I try to unzip files on my new computer (arriving in about an hour I hope). They presumably let you not compress files (my preference), but the default is to compress, and the line is "greyed" out.

So, I called their tech support. After 3 minutes, at $1.29 per minute, he could not tell me why. He put me on hold (free) and tried it himself. His conclusion: you can only turn off the compression when backing up DRIVES, not FILES.

I agree with others that say documentation could be a lot better, but I am glad that I fought my way through the issues.

It seems to be a powerful program, and hopefully other tasks won't be so hard.

Recently purchased a new Vista equipped PC,so I had to get a new copy of Nero.Amazon shipped to me in 2 days and had a better price than anyone else. The features in Nero are better than ever, with a user configurable start page and built in PVR,and great burning features just some of the toys you have.I couldn't be happier with my order.I highly recommend Nero and Amazon in this case.
