5 out of 5 stars Install on a powerful PC with a high end video card for decent or even acceptable performance.   August 11, 2008

We spent more time testing the video edit features and didn't deploy the software onto a host with a video capture nor did we load video from a DVCorder, instead we used private DVD files furnished by others and other vid files from the web.

The interface is clearly intended for the amateur like us, one of our friends who is also a die hard Sony Vegas user like many of the other reviewers here commented on this fact and held Sony Vegas side by side to show us the simplicity of ULead.

Blending files is tedious at first and less than straightforward compared to the simplicity of the rest of the application but easy once you realize all the required steps.

We also installed the package on our Toshiba Quosimo, it was the most expensive model we could buy a year ago and has a huge screen and too heavy to really be called a laptop but the ULead package seemed to struggle.

When we installed the package on our teenage son's gamer box which is over two years old and had the best video card at the time, the ULead package performs admirably without annoying latency and lapses.

5 out of 5 stars Can't Miss with this software   August 10, 2008
Excellent video editing software. A BIG band for a small reasonable price. There are so many features and everything works perfectly. You can't miss with this product.

1 out of 5 stars Installation nightmare   August 1, 2008

I was so anxious to get this program. After reading all the rewiews, I decided to purchase it. The price was right through Amazon. I had earlier versions of this program so decided to go with it again. I also have had earlier versions of Pinnacle, the last one was 11 plus. I wasn't very impressed with it.
With Ulead 11.5 plus, I couldn't get to first base. It would not recognize my CD rom drive. I tried every which way to install. My husband tried it too. Spent all day on it. Installing, uninstalling. I never could get it installed. If a program is this difficult to install, it isn't worth having. I sent it back. My computer is a Pentium 4, 2 G of ram, and plenty of hard disk space.

4 out of 5 stars Fantastic Program!   July 31, 2008

The only reason I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 is that it's not terribly intuitive, and the instructions are difficult to understand. However, once I spent a couple of hours playing with it myself, it became quite easy to use. For a sample project, go here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-INOYUUFLAo. It took me an hour from start to finish (I already had the video clips). It even uploads to YouTube for you! Very cool. I used a camera with the capability to record video clips, and I converted an mp3 I bought off Amazon to a wma file. Free software available on the Internet allows you to do this. I am a novice, so others of you out there, go for it!

2 out of 5 stars Easy enough to use, but so very tough to install, crashed my system   July 30, 2008

The fifth time was a charm (!) when I tried to install this software on my Windows XP based system. I have a relatively new system and so I did not anticipate all the problems I had in installing this software. I've used Adobe Premiere Elements 4 before and even Nero 8 Ultra Edition for some light movie editing and never had a problem with the install or in burning the final DVD. With Ulead VideoStudio I am stumped.

The first 3 times I tried to install it the installation simply froze in the middle and I had to shut down my system to get it to work again. The 4th time I was able to load the software and then it asked me to insert the bonus CD which comes with WinDVD - the CD authoring software - and extra audio, video clips. The moment WinDVD started to install on my system it tried to delete some files which caused a fatal system error and I got blue screened. I began again the next day, I installed the software again and did not put in the bonus CD as suggested.

The software is easy to work with, it can convert your DV tapes to digital media or you can edit your digital media. It's easy to drop in your video clips, drag in audio and use transitions. You may not able to use your computer for much else while editing unless you have a very powerful system. However, once you're done editing, it can be very frustrating to go through the authoring process.

My system keeps freezing repeatedly and it becomes really difficult to create a DVD from this software most times. I am not sure if the hassle is worth my time, even though the software interface is intuitive and easy to use. If I get the system freeze one more time while trying to make a DVD, I am going to uninstall the software.
