5 out of 5 stars GREAT COOKING SYSTEM FOR ANY STAGE OF LIFE   July 18, 2008
3 out of 3 found this review helpful

I started with this book over 7 years ago when I was homeschooling my kids during the day and ferrying them to activities in the afternoon and evening. 30 day Gourmet allowed me to cook when it was convenient for me, freeze meals, and put a healthy, tasty, economical meal on the table on even the most hectic of nights. The recipes are family-friendly and the directions clear and complete. Now that the kids are in college I still cook and freeze. My husband is such a fan that he has started helping me on my cooking days. My kids enjoy having a few of their favorite meals "ala Mom" in the freezer of their apartments. I'm back to work, so there is always a freezer meal for me and my husband on those nights neither of us wants to cook, and I put aside a few meals for my elderly mother-in-law who cannot handle preparing a full meal, but can pop a freezer meal in the oven or microwave. 30 day Gourmet has allowed me to simplify and de-stress my lifestyle--priceless!

4 out of 5 stars Pretty Good - Smaller than expected   April 4, 2008

This cookbook is rather thin and contains no pictures - I'm a visual person so that didn't appeal to me. It does contain wonderful charts to help you with planning and several recipies that sounded enticing. I'm glad I checked it out from the library first. I would have been disappointed to spend that much money on such a small book.

5 out of 5 stars Comprehensive charts and good instructions   March 24, 2008

This is the best book to buy if you're just getting started, if only because of the exhaustive charts. I own a very early copy ('way back when they were sold in 3-ring binder format), and while not all of the recipes are to my taste, the charts allow you to use any freezer-friendly recipes you like in order to make up your month's worth of meals.

This is important because while there are other OAMC (or once a week) cookbooks out there with some pretty good recipes, a lot of them have you eating that same main ingredient (say, chicken) for the the whole week. Or, their shopping lists are only useful if you're making their entire menu for that shopping list (and no commercial cookbook could possibly have every single recipe be a winner). With 30-day Gourmet, you can make up your shopping lists to go with your favorite recipes. Chicken on sale that week? Pull out your chicken chart. Same for beef or vegetables.

This is the best book to learn the system with.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect for beginners   February 16, 2008

This book is really for beginners, or those that need some hints or organization. It starts off with all the how to's and such. There is not a large section with recipes, but you do get a username and password to a website that has over 250 additional recipes. This book comes with many spreadsheets to keep the day running smoothly, and let me tell you that makes a huge difference. ALL IN ALL: If you have in down and are just looking for new recipes, look around, if you are new to freezer cooking, this is perfect.

3 out of 5 stars Good for planning fanatics   February 8, 2008

This book is more an instructional book on how to multiply recipes than an actual cookbook. Access to the extra online recipes are nice. Check out the website before deciding whether or not this is the book you're looking for. I prefer Don't Panic, Dinner's in the Freezer for ideas on unique recipes for the freezer.
