Does not work with Vista November 16, 2008 This program will not run on Windows Vista. I know the mimimum requirements say 98/2000/XP, but I bought other products with the same requirements and I got them running with one of the compatibility options. I've tried everything with this, but it would not save. And then, support is not available anymore. I thought a good idea to spend only $10 instead of $60 (another one I was considering to buy), but it was not a good idea. I'll dump this one now and go for the other one.
Great idea, lousy execution August 2, 2008 Buy this only for working on small projects. I used it to "bring to life" a house from a blueprint, seemed to work great, then would mysteriously delete my creation for no reason. I found out today why: it was using so many rescources, and writing HUGE files to my compute to run it, everytime I ran it, in other words, it hogged my computer so much that it crashed. I have a new computer with plenty of space and a great processor, so why they wrote a program that won't compile compactly is beyond me. Only buy this for small projects, otherwise prepare for disappointment. Today I had to rebuild my PC from the ground up because this scrambled my PC's brain so badly it could no longer even start up. Nice idea, lousy execution.
Pleasantly Surprised with this Diamond in the Rough June 27, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I can't believe this was only $7.99. It is an amazing product. With it I was able to create a model of my house using measurements and then make another model to represent the modifications and add-on I want. It also allows you to decorate and furnish your model, and the walk-through video feature is awesome. My only complaints are that it isn't the easiest software to master, at times the graphics are a bit off, and that it is extremely difficult to get walls to match up exactly when creating a drawing from scratch. I also have yet to figure out how to effectively add a roof to my designs. However, I have never used any type of design software, I am in no way a computer savvy person, and I have never had any type of architectural or design experience, so the fact that I was able to turn out an accurate model at all is amazing! I find myself simply playing with the software now in my spare time, and selecting the homes in the design library to tweak, decorate and furnish- it is not unlike working with miniatures and doll houses- a passion of mine. All in all this product far exceeds it's low price tag, and I would buy it again even knowing it's few minor problems.
A little old, but easy to use. April 11, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
The good thing about Custom 3D Home is how easy it is to use. It's a little old & probably out of date, but it's much easier to build your own home designs than with most of the other software out there. It has it's problems--walls that should snap to the correct points often have to be tweaked to make a perfect corner in 3D, but thankfully once you get them right you can lock them in place. Of course furnishings are fairly limited, but you can get the idea. It works well enough, and is a fantastic value. I had no problems running it on my Windows XP machine. I'd recommend it for making quick & easy home designs and remodels. Measurements change as you expand or contract whatever you are working on, so everything can be designed exactly to specification. What have you got to lose? You barely need to read the manual to get going.
disappointing CAD March 10, 2008 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
I was looking for a simple CAD program for a home based real estate business. I trained on two CAD programs costing over $3000 before I retired and did not want nor need that level of sophistication. I found this program to be relatively easy to learn but extraordinarily difficult to use and after over 2 hours of trying to draw a simple floor plan, I just decided that it was not worth the effort. Every new line produced two unwanted errors. The more I corrected, the worse it got. I love using CAD software but I consider this one a poor value although inexpensive to purchase. I'll just review my old manuals on AutoCad or TurboCad, both of which I own.
