Successful Use May 2, 2008 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
It appears that the initial glitches with defective software disks and poor support from the developer are the main problems that have been giving this product poor reviews. They, however, don't really address actual use. Anyone who buys now should not receive the initial defective disks. My sense, by reviewing the dates of the reviews, is that the defective disks are likely off the market by now.
Regardless, my experience with installation and training on a MacBook Pro (2.4GHz) was fine and I was dictating within 15 minutes or fewer from starting the installation. Accuracy has been very, very good.
Another star from me when 'missing' features such as adding words and correction have been added. As is, this is very functional software.
Don't buy, yet. It WILL BE a good product. April 29, 2008 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
As a long time Dragon Nat. Speak user and recent iListen user, don't buy this product yet, at least don't pay full price for it. I had the bad DATA disk problem and just got my new one and now am up and running with MacSpeech. I like it but with the lack of being able to add new vocabulary and spell correction, this product is not of much use in real world dictation. There is no way to train new words to your voice. You can add new words via adding document. Wait until they have a "real" full blown version, then buy it. You will love it.
Its pretty much exactly like Dragon Nat. Speaking, just for the MAC. It is much better than iListen by far.
I work in a science dept, so not having the ability to train new words or correct them, puts me at a distinct disadvantage. I am still using Dragon Nat. Speak (for WIN).
There are some nice features, adding new global commands, text macros, that I will use often.
But they rushed to get this product out before it was ready (did they used to work for Microsoft?!) and in so doing have made a lot of unhappy customers including myself. It WILL BE a nice product when they have it all together.
If you do buy it, keep these limitations in mind.
worthless customer support April 26, 2008 7 out of 10 found this review helpful
I bought this software. Immediately upon installation the product would not register. I got a reply that there was a problem with the serial number. I tried installing it on 2 seperate macs with the same results. I called tech support and finally reached someone after 20 minutes. They told me they could not solve my problem on the spot but would e mail me. So getting farther behind in my work I waited. A week goes by and no response. I call again and they tell me that apparently no one has gotten to my case yet. I asked them if they thought it was fair that I paid for software that doesn't work and was not able to use it. I was told there must be a lot more people with problems in front of me and I'd have to wait my turn. The tech support person told me there was a backlog of people with problems before me. He could not offer any suggestions to try to get the software to work. IMHO he was just there to answer the phones and hand off problems to the "next tier" He also said that since it was friday all the "next tier" people had gone home already and they would not address the issue until monday. All I can say is that this company seems pretty poorly run and there are a lot of issues with the software that the public isn't aware of. I will try to get my money back. I own my own company and if I treated customers with problems with this much indifference, I would be out of business.
I'm impressed... April 24, 2008 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
I don't understand the other reviews. I received my copy of MacSpeech Dictate today, and I am very impressed. The program was easy to install and after the initial minimum voice training I was receiving surprisingly high accuracy.
I haven't done any extra training but as you can see the program is dictating very well (I am using it to write this review and I haven't touched the keyboard yet).
I am very excited to use this program since I experience RSI problems with my arms. I would highly recommend any Mac user who would like to cut down on the amount of typing they do to purchase this program and learn to use it.
Don't understand the previous reviews April 22, 2008 8 out of 10 found this review helpful
So I don't understand the previous reviews. I installed the software on my MacBook Pro-the first model to come out. The installation was a breeze. I trained it for about 6 minutes. I started using Word and TextEdit. For accuracy, it's probably the most accurate I've seen for a speech recognition product-and I've used them all. I was very skeptical about buying this product after the reviews. So I went and bought this at the Apple Store to try it for myself. I'm very happy about this.
