1 out of 5 stars Absolute Junk The only thing it is good at is wasting my time   August 11, 2008
Broke down frequently for numerous different reasons-always blamed on changing a firewall setting which I hadn't done. Fixing it required spending hours with customer support in India; all technicians had poor English skills. When I needed to restore an individual zapped file, after 30 minutes was told that Norton 360 could not restore an individual file. Technical service refused to connect me with someone of adequate technical and language skills, even after I said I was totally displeased and they agreed they had not fixed my problem. Symantec doesn't care as long as they get your money. I am tired of paying good money for poor products, and this is the poorest, not capable of the simplest tasks.Norton 360 Version 2.0

5 out of 5 stars 360 all around   August 10, 2008
I was first introduced to 360 as a beta tester and enjoyed testing the product. I like the ease of installation. I like Norton products and have used them for years. All the companies I have worked for as a ME secured their PCs and networks. Have never been downed by rogues virus attacks. Will never use the other guys.

1 out of 5 stars Defective Product With No Support   August 9, 2008

I had been using Norton 360 Version 1 for 10 months. It appeared to function as advertised, although one has no way of knowing whether it really works or not. I was offered an update to Version 2 as part of the 1 year subscription entitlement. Version 2 not only disallows the backups I carefully made under Version 1 (which means I cannot restore from them) but I can no longer even use Windows to back up my files nor use System Restore. So the most critical and basic security function no longer works under Version 2. What happens is that when you attempt to do a backup (or restore), Norton requires you to configure it (no problem with that), but you cannot do this because you no longer can set a local drive as the backup destination! So you can no longer use local hard drives or DVD drives or anything but their online backup space which you need to pay additional for, is not large enough, and which is, by definition, insecure since you have no control over it. Of course when you try to contact the company, you are faced with daunting obstacles. You may, of course, pay them extra so that you can talk to someone. Otherwise tough for you. Their online chat is a joke with wait times of an hour or more. They then disconnect you from the session and you have to restart from the bottom of the queue again. I never did get through to anyone which I gather is by design. At this point, I will go back to Version 1 which I hope I will be able to do successfully and then use a completely different product when my subscription expires. So be forewarned!

1 out of 5 stars More annoyance, little help   August 5, 2008

In reality, while Norton 360 is probably protecting me against viruses, it seems to make my computer run slower. It uses up alot of resources, that's for sure. It also put a task bar on top, which I did not want. I feel like Norton also finds ways to charge more money to its customers. For example, the program insists that you back up your files on their online server, otherwise you'll keep being alerted. Of course when you do that, another alert comes asking you to pay more for storage, because you do not have enough space to back up the whole thing. Paying for their software should be enough! When there are errors or problems with Norton, in the last couple of years, the service has deteriorated. A few years back, replies would be personal and even helpful, but now they seem vague and ineffective, and don't respond well to replies. It seems like they are automated and not written by actual people. I ordered 360 to give Norton one more try, but now I think this was the last straw, and I will try other virus software in the future.

1 out of 5 stars Absolutely the worst software, and worst support EVER!   August 4, 2008

Norton used to be known as a company with terrific products, with wonderful support. I own a business with around 10 PC's and a Win 2K server. We have run Norton products for many years. However,I am very sorry to say that after 3 months of using their new Norton 360 product, I am extremely disappointed. That's an understatement. There is a file installed during their installation, called SPBBCDRV.SYS. This file causes Windows XP Pro to crash regularly! And every time I contact Symantec about it, their answer is to uninstall the product, and reinstall it. This takes about an hour, more like two, if you wish to re-enter your personal data (there is of course no way to save this). THEY ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM WITH THEIR SPBBCDRV.SYS FILE, BUT HAVE NO SOLUTION!!!

First, Norton doesn't have any idea what to do about this file that repeatedly causes Windows Blue Screen Of Death crashes. Secondly, correspondence with Symantec regarding this and other issues, usually involves a non-technically savey employer telling you things that have nothing to do with any of the problems. Thirdly, Symantec's follow-up emails are NEVER answered. When emails generated via their "problem solving" system on their website are answered, they are ALWAYS generic responses, and have never solved our problems.

Well, I could just go on and on about this. But let me just say that I am truly sorry I bought this product and installed in on multiple business computers. I have just spent the last 4 days developing work-arounds of the various problems on many of the machines.

I WILL SOON UNINSTALL THIS PRODUCT ON ALL OUR MACHINES, AS SOON AS I PURCHASE ANOTHER INTERNET SECURITY PRODUCT.

PS I am running their latest, newest version N360 Version 2.
