3 out of 5 stars Good, but with its bugs   February 22, 2008

Office 2008 in ways makes a nice sequel to 2004. The interface is improved by allowing users to further customize toolbars and have easy access to templates and themes. Office 2008 also now supports OpenXML documents. For those who us who have Intel macs you may notice an increase in performance as far as loading.

There are some downsides to 2008, which are notable. One is that 2008 does not support visual basic scripts. Another downside which I find a big problem is that 2008 does not play well with Expose. When using expose 2008 will constantly fail to be selected and focused on and while moving between spaces 2008 will often change which space it's in when switching to it. In addition I've had many instances in which 2008 has crashed on me while working on important documents only to be saved by its recovery feature. While these issues will likely be fixed in an update, it's a problem as it is.

Pros.

+ Improved Interface
+ More Document Support

Cons.

- No VB Support
- Lots of bugs
- Stability
- Price

I recommend waiting until some patches come out before upgrading. More than likely you can get by with 2004 for now.

Office 2008 has a redesigned Interface and is supposedly ready for Intel Macs. I was disappointed in this software - it runs slower on my Mac Pro than Office 2004. During installation it wants you to delete older versions on your hard drive. It also has some bugs to be worked out. I would recommend waiting until it has been updated and the update has been reviewed.

Disappointing product in need of an update

I have been waiting for years for this product to be Mac Universal and now it is.

I bought this version of office for a new machine, having used 2004 on previous machines. This version is not only buggy, but runs slower on an Intel machine than 2004 running in Rosetta.

I would recommend waiting for SP-1 to come out.

This downloaded without problems and works as it should. And, I like the fact that it is useable on 3 computers.
