Enjoying a wonderful piece of software November 18, 2008 I'm particularly pleased with Microsoft Office 2008, because it enables me to download the Attachments I receive without any of the problems I had previously. It was a good investment for a 91-year-old woman who likes to keep in touch with family and friends.
Excellent Product November 12, 2008 This is an excellent product for high school students. It has allowed me to finish up any unfinished schoolwork, and it has saved me more than once! Where I live not many people have macs so all the projects we do in school is on a windows computer. This microsoft office product has helped a lot.
SLOWER than Office 2004 November 12, 2008 I upgraded from Office 2004 and actually found 2008 to run slower on my Intel Mac than did 2004! It also hangs quite often while using it (changing tasks, saving, opening a new document) and it's all rather frustrating. The updated interface is actually pretty nice (a lot nicer than version 2007 is on Windows) but the slower speed and glitches make it a step back from Office 2004.
Great Product - HUGE improvement over last edition November 11, 2008 If anybody owns MS Office 2003 for Mac (or older versions), upgrade - seriously. I'm not a MS fan, but I realize their Office suite is essential. It is much easier to use the interface for the MS 2008 products. For example, Word now has 'quick access' buttons that allow you to put a cover page, table of contents, etc. into your document with much more ease. Excel has similar features, and you can quickly create charts from tables.
By the way, I have a Mac at home and a PC at work. I'm a student and use Word daily - I also work and use Excel daily. I prefer the PC version slightly more than the Mac version - but I virtually use the Mac version 100% of the time on my home computer even though I have parallels and Windows on my Mac. The Mac version is 95% of the PC version. Finally a strong MS product for Mac!
There is only 1 complaint I have. Documents save in the 2008 version by default which can not be opened on older version of MS Word / Excel / etc. You have to change the default settings to get things to save in the ".doc" or ".xls" version - otherwise it will default to ".docx" and ".xlsx". It's really simple - but I'm sure this will piss off 90% of users who aren't sure why their professors / supervisors can't open the documents they created at home. This is (rightfully) annoying, and is Microsoft's attempt to force the world into upgrading to the latest version..
