Windows XP Upgrade a "total bust" May 3, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
This upgrade (from Windows 98SE) was a total disaster! The upgrade took about 45 minutes to reach the point where it displayed the message that it could not continue and complete. After about two more attempts (including reformatting my hard drive and re-installing Win98SE) and getting to the error message display even earlier! I finally contacted MS help via telephone. Eventually, a supervisor at Microsoft intervened and sent me a "full-up" Windows XP Home Edition which installed without a hitch.

easy March 23, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've been wanting to upgrade my Dell Dimension desktop running Windowsw ME for some time now. I cleaned up the hard drive, added some memory, and installed Windows XP upgrade. It was all so easy. Everything works like a charm! AND the old desktop boots up and runs even quicker than my newer laptop! We saved hundreds of dollars by upgrading, rather than buying a new system. We're very happy and we highly recommend this upgrade.
XP for Me is Solid and Good March 21, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have XP running on a bootcamp partition on my MacBook and it is doing just fine. I spend most of my working time in Word, hardly ever using any of the other programs in the Office suite. However, I use the Adobe products PhotoShop, InDesign and Illustrator a whole bunch. Other than that I play solitaire, watch videos and, of course, use both Explorer and Firefox when I go online. That's about it for me, software wise, and XP handles it all without fail, without crashing and without giving me any headaches.
And I will miss it when I upgrade to Vista, however my machine can handle the upgrade. If yours can't, then I'd recommend you stay with XP. It's solid and good. Vista may be better, but it's not worth buying a new computer over.
