Super duper OS! The best UNIX all around. September 25, 2005 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
OS X is superb! It is easy to use full of advanced features and stable. I also discovered that it offers a versatility of real UNIX machine and it worth learning. Try Linux and UNIX for a beginner complete training suite, 4DVDs + 2CDs ed.2008 Now I have three Apple computers in my house hold and got red of all that PC trash I had been messing for decade or so! I wish you happy computing, enjoy!
OSX.4 ROCKS September 19, 2005 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
After using a Pc for the last 15 years...Switching to a MAC was the most liberating thing I've done in a while, OS 10.4 runs circles around WIN XP, Give it a try, the difference between OS 9 and OS 10 is UNIMAGINABLE! and the difference between OS 10.3 and 10.4 (both of which I have) is BEAUTIFUL as well! While buying this product, I would also recommend purchasing an iMac G5!

Spotlight alone is worth the money. September 14, 2005 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
I upgraded from 10.3 to 10.4 (not a clean install), and have used it for ~3 months. It's quite worth the money. As an academic user, I store lots of papers in PDF in my library folder, and I used to lose track of some. Instead of wading through folder trees, however, I can now type the keyword, author name, etc. and a few good candidates just pop up immediately. I even discover a new paper that exactly contains the content I was looking for. If you're in the same situation, you'll also appreciate the power and time savings of Spotlight.
Widgets are fun to use, but they tend to occupy a lot of memory and slow down the system, unless you have >1Gb of RAM. It's a neat feature nevertheless. Dictionary application is a good addition, and PDF preview program has improved, too.
I haven't noticed my Powerbook slowing down or speeding up after upgrade. Probably it would've been faster if I had installed Tiger from scratch. I have to say that the system is a bit more unstable than 10.3, especially when I use smart folder features.
In short, 10.3 Panther was the best OS I've ever used (including Unix, Linux, Windows), even better than Unix. With the addition of Spotlight search, 10.4 Tiger got even better. If this is the feature you desire, you should definitely upgrade.

Really new Mac OS September 9, 2005 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I like Tiger very much.I upgraded it to 10.4.2,which fixed a couple of glitches. For someone who isn't very geeky-well I AM geeky for a senior citizen-it's easy and quite straightforward to work with.I love the dashboard and its cool widgets, which are little applications. The BBC one is terrific. You get rolling headlines.Click on one and presto you are transported to the BBC web site and the headlined article.Andy Ihnatko and David Pogue have superb help books. For fun,you can't beat Scott Kelby'sMac OSXTiger Killer Tips. Now you'll have a big Amazon bill, but a great Library which should keep you free of panic.
