Very unhappy with this product September 11, 2008 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
Among other promises, Apple stated, with the rollout of MobileMe that it would allow you to synchronize your Outlook calendar, contacts and email, via the internet (i.e. MobileMe service) from a source PC to a target Mac. Well, this functionality absoultely did not work when MobileMe was released. It may have worked in very specific scenarios, but given Apple's big promises which drove me to buy the product, one has to conclude that it does not work as advertised.
I'm an IT professional and I'm both a Windows/PC and a Mac enthusiast so I'm not bashing Apple unnecesarily here. They just messed this one up. I'm not giving up on Apple. They say that they're still working to get MobileMe to work as advertised so I'm still waiting.
Other than my gripes, MobileMe seems to work pretty much just like its predecessor, the .Mac service, which does have some value.
Wow! What a staggering waste of money! September 11, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
The short: Poorly developed, and overpriced. Use google's free utilities (email, docs storage, etc)....for free.
The long: I'm really bothered that I paid for this. The interface is designed like a late 90's java GUI. It is slow. It frequently has to be reloaded. It does sync with your mac/iPhone....occasionally. It took 1 min and 35 sec to upload a 2 meg file just now. The mail does not allow you to track threads. This software is so bad that Apple has given us 3 free months as an apology. At least that is some consolation. However, its no balm when I consider that google's Gmail works very well, and is free.
I like my iPhone. I like my Mac. I will probably get an iPod nano as well. But, I absolutely despise Mobile Me. Its a piece of garbage, and the developers should be fired.
****UPDATE**** MOBILE ME STILL A PIECE OF JUNK Like many others, I hoped that the bugs might be worked out, and many have. The result? An embarrassingly poor version of gmail, and one of the online Photo uploading sites. Its amazing. If this were free, I'd still use gmail. Mobile Me is still slow, the interface still lacking in every feature that makes gmail a great product. From a web browser, you can only manipulate files to the extent of adding and removing. No moving them around within directories, etc. And now Amazon has it at half price? Its still not worth it.
Great Idea....doesn't work...and tech support extremely poor... September 9, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
DON'T BUY this until they figure it out. This is not like any other Apple product. All the rest work beautifully. But this one does not, and the company that they subcontracted out to for tech support, is inept. For Mobile Me, you cannot even chat with a real person...you have to use email.....days and days between responses. SAVE YOUR MONEY....WAIT UNTIL THEY FIX IT. I will take this review down when they get it working for me.

.mac to mobileMe account September 9, 2008 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
this was a renewal of my .mac account-saved me $20 -includes free shipping from Amazon
Another year with iTools/.mac/MobileMe September 8, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I enjoyed this service when it was introduced by Steve Jobs some eight years ago as a free service. Dropped it like a dead frog when they started charging $99/year. Apple recently gave me a free year of .mac for mishandling my notebook repair. Since then I've been using the service mostly for the included backup utility. Now, the Mac OS (Leopard) has a built in backup routine, so that's not important. I'm still trying to find a way to justify the cost. If you need online storage, it's okay. If you like the .mac or .me email address, it's your only choice. But there are lots of free online storage and email solutions these days. One service I did use and appreciate was the iCard feature, which has now been removed. Adding to my disinterest in future renewals. At least it's not as expensive through Amazon. For $74 USD shipped, it's less of a pill to swallow. But unless they add some value between now and next year, I'll pass on future renewals.
