5 out of 5 stars Disk Management Software   January 9, 2007

Excellent software to manage your large backup hard drives. You can format, partition, split, merge and a whole lot of other things. If you purchase a large backup hard drive I recommend this software and the Acronis True Image software. With both, you can partition your drive and have a ghost copy of your c:\ drive in one partition and daily backups of My Documents in another. This way in case of a HD crash you have a bootable backup. (Note that the software that comes with backup hard drives will not make a bootable backup of your hard drive.) Thats why I recommend both Acronis software packages.

1 out of 5 stars Not Vista friendly   December 28, 2006

I had Windows Media Center 2005 and Windows 2003 Server installed on a Raid 0 array with WD Raptors. Each OS had an equal share of the array and I wanted to make room for Vista. I bought DD, resized the partitions, and made a disk for Vista.

Installing Vista initially worked, but the next day the file system became corrupt and got progressivly worse until Vista was completely unworkable. I ran multiple tests on the hard drives, but they checked out. I looked through the Acronis forums and noticed that others had the same issues with Vista. I decided to delete the partition that DD created then let the Vista setup create and format the partition. Letting Vista control things has worked out great.

I should also mention that I tried out Disk Director's OS Selector. Ugh, huge mistake. Since Vista modifies the way the OS's boot, the DD OS Selector won't see any of the operating systems and will simply hang. And since it can't see any OS's, it refuses to uninstall. I have to make sure I catch it and press F6 (before it shows up no less) every single time.

Needless to say I'm not happy with Disk Director and its OS Selector. It might work if you aren't using Vista, but if you involve Vista, you are in for a great deal of pain.

I chose this partition software based on Amazon's and others reviews. It includes a thorough and easy to comprehend guide, simple and easy to use wizards, and optional choices for advanced users. Within just a few minutes of installation I had succesfully transfered 5 gig of free drive space from my D to my C drive, with no problems or loss of data. Money well-spent

2 out of 5 stars Not Safe as Claimed   November 10, 2006

This product is not safe as claimed. I have dual systems (Windows 2000 and Linux)installed on my laptop. What I wanted to do is just to simply move some space originally alloted to Linux to Windows system but crashed my system. Wasted time and money.
