 Significant Upgrade of Earlier Versions November 11, 2006

I had used earlier versions of this software. They left a great deal to be desired in terms of recognition accuracy. I was somewhat dubious about this upgrade however I was very pleasantly surprised by it. I bought it for a friend who speaks English with a significant accent from her native French tongue. The software recognized her speech with pretty good accuracy right out of the box without any training. After some training the accuracy is excellent. The Graphic User Interface has been greatly improved as well.

The software works well. Recognition is about 90% and improving with use. Good thing, because I don't type very well!

This newest version of "the Dragon" is far and away the best product of its type available today!
Even if you choose to skip training, the program gives amazing accuracy, which improves as you go on using it.
The included vocabulary is huge, and it's easy to add special words or phrases, such as e-mail addresses, nicknames, etc.
The headphone mic isn't all that great, but $20 at WalMart gets a good one.
Setup and registration were easily done.
5-star rating because there is no "10"!

Having used version 8 since March, I have just installed version 9. From some of the comments above, I was apprehensive as to how it would work on a cheap, bottom end Dell C521 computer with integrated everything and a Sempron chip, using the same trashy head crunching headset that came with version 8. I have to admit that I am completely and pleasantly surprised with how easy it was to train and install, and how accurately my dictation is transcribed. The feature which analyzes one's writing style by looking at all documents stored on one's computer seems to be quite amazing -- even proprietary words like Puratone and others which are likely not part of the packaged vocabulary came out perfectly on my very first dictation.
My only complaint continues to be the poor quality of headset (head crunching is no exaggeration) included with the package. My suggestion would be that Dragon forego any headset at all, reduce the price by a few dollars, and then users can purchase the one that works/fits well for them.
I have ALS and thus can no longer type well with my hands. This package makes life easier. But even for those who can still type well, this software greatly speeds up typing, and is quite fun to use as well.

The headset included with this product is of good quality. After going through the short speaking excercises the software was typing for me. I have carpal tunnel and I highly recommend this product to anyone that needs assistance with typing due to a disability. I gave this product careful consideration before making a purchase and I have not been disappointed. I was thoroughly impressed with how easy it was to use. I also liked the idea that the Preferred version of this software allows for dictation from a digital recorder. I record my dictation and then via usb the software begins to type after processing. Another function that is very much appreciated would be the automatic spell correction. I would highly recommend this product.
