DON'T BUY, Save your $$ August 23, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Their software came with my Dell computer. I wasn't happy with the service. Now every year at this time they charge my credit card. Their customer support is TERRIBLE, I've had to call in multiple times each year to get them to refund my money (each call was about 20-30mins), and they continue to bill me. I haven't figured out a way to get my credit # out of their system to avoid these charges in the future.
VERY FRUSTRATING. I am livid that I have spent so much time on this, and that they contiue to bill me. I think their poor service is by design so that it's more painful to go through the work of a refund than just accepting the charges for a product I haven't used in 3yrs.
doesn't support all of vista August 16, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
On their box it says that to download the vista installer, visit this link. You go there and download and it doesn't support any 64 bit version of vista. Buyer beware, they aren't telling you the full systems supported. If you contact their customer service, they'll say, it's coming soon. The boxes with the stickers were printed in April, so soon to them means months at least 4+ months away. horrible service. i'm going to get their competitor's software.
Huge delays in opening Microsoft Applications July 14, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
After I installed McAfee Total Protection 2007, it took more than 20 minutes to open every Word document or Excel spreadsheet or Powerpoint slide. This was very much frustrating. McAfee Total Protection 2007 slows down other applications and I have uninstalled this product finally.
Wow i guess im the odd man out lol May 28, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought Mcafee total protection back 5 months ago and I love it. I bought it because of an article I read on PC world online who tested and compared it to other protection suets. Mcafee scored highest in cleaning all the ad ware and malware with a really good virus scanner and did great on all the other tests as well like root kits Trojans key loggers etc etc. I use to try all kinds of protection for my computer and a lot of them didn't work well with each other needless to say I did a lot of formating. With total protection I have all the tools I want in one package. I love how I can ban IP addresses. I baned 5 IPs the first week trying to hack into my computer. I had no trouble downloading it but I did save to disk and installed from there.I am also a gamer I play a lot of games on my comp like eq eq2 wow gw lotr online and vanguard. So far it hasen't bothered my comp as far as slowing it down much. I cant tell any difference from my other internet security suets. My comp didn't play vanguard very well though I will have to admit but most people were having trouble with that one to many bugs. My comp is an alien ware with an amd athlon 64 processor it has 2 gigs of ram with a radon x800 pro graphics card. Not that great any more lol. Any way I will have to give total protection a 4 star rating as I do really love this protection package. I would give it a 5 star rating if it didn't cost so much to call support however I have found the help files very useful in the Mcafee interface. this program is best I have had so far.
DO NOT BUY ANY MCAFEE PRODUCT May 7, 2007 12 out of 13 found this review helpful
This is less a review for Total Protection 2007, and more a review of Mcafee's customer service support, which obviously extends to all of their products.
I used a Mcafee product for about six weeks with no problems. One day, I had a technical issue. It was then that I discovered that Mcafee's technical support and customer service departments are shamefully unprepared to assist customers.
- I had to pay three dollars a minute to use the technical support telephone number. Of the seven minutes I was on that call, I was on hold for more than half the time (still being charged). When the technician finally emailed me instructions to resolve my technical issue, I quickly discovered he had sent me instructions for an issue completely unrelated to mine. In essence, I spent 21 dollars on hold music. (seven minutes)
- Mcafee has an online technician chat option for those people who do not wish to pay for technical support. My experience was VERY slow, I was frequently disconnected, and most importantly, I chatted with EIGHT different technicians (I cut-and-pasted all the chat sessions), and none of them was able to provide me with information that was even remotely relevant to my problem. They were all using standard cut-and-paste respponses that did not address my difficulty. (four hours)
- I studied the Help Tree, FAQ, and Help Index sections on the Mcafee website, to no avail (one hour)
- I finally called the customer service support line (it's NOT a toll-free number), explained that I wanted a product refund, and was told I would be contacted within 48 hours. When I wasn't, I called and began an almost indescribably difficult process of getting my refund:
- conversations with TEN different customer service representatives - being put on hold for one hour on TWO separate occasions, having to finally hang up and call back - being cut off twice - in all, spending FOUR HOURS on the phone
The worst part is that my issue STILL isn't resolved. Since I'm demanding that I be reimbursed the money I spent on calling technical support, and that I be compensated for all the personal time and phone time I have invested, I'm STILL dealing with them.
This is a shameful, disgustingly low level of customer support. It's a shockingly unethical way to do business, and it robs the product owner of any peace-of-mind. We buy internet security and antivirus software for peace-of-mind. But this horrible experience has utterly robbed me of it.
PLEASE DO NOT BUY ANY SOFTWARE PUBLISHED BY MCAFEE.
