great product well done easy to install and use December 20, 2007 2 out of 5 found this review helpful
i have used norton in the past .it was not user friendly .i switched to macafee which i liked and used for years until last year.the macafee suite was updated last year i found it to be a space hog ,cumbersome and it slowed my pc .after my subscription ended i switched to avast a free virus protection program .while i liked it -it was easy to use -i felt it didn't give me full protection .it doesn't include a firewall ,antispam, antispyware, antiphishing protection.so i researched the leading antivirus software .this got good reviews for the most part ,there wll always be some negatives,so i decided to buy kaspersky .i have it installed on both my desktop and laptop.i found it easy to install, easy to use.you configure it for basic or advanced.i like the suite because it has it all virus protection along with firewall and anti spyware and phishing.it does not hog space or slow my pc.i am overall very satisfied .i feel well protected with kaspersky.
Much, much better than Norton Antivirus! December 14, 2007 9 out of 11 found this review helpful
I have been using Kaspersky 7.03 since October 2007 and have had NO problems with it. My computer runs faster now that I've gotten rid of Norton Anti-virus. Before you install Kaspersky go to the Norton site and download the Norton Removal Download to remove all the Norton clutter.
My ISP has an excellent spam filter so I disabled the Kaspersky spam filter.
Nobody Does It Better December 10, 2007 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
When I was young, we didn't have newfangled computers in our schools. And looking back, we liked it! Carrying those notebook computers would have weighed us down walking 20 miles to school barefoot in the snow...
But then we grew up, had careers, and those computer gizmos showed up. I learned about them on the seat of my pants. Early on, I found Norton products served me well. I find them high maintenance, but that's OK for me. I don't mind getting warned or asked frequently about a potential threat or problem.
I DO mind when my system gets slowed down. I started with Norton's Internet Security. It worked OK, but everything we hear about Norton as system hog? I find it's understated.
I moved on to Zone Alarm, and found my performance improved. When it was time to renew, I was going to try Norton 360, but then someone recommended Kaspersky highly. I bought Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0. It installed uneventfully to Windows XP, and my system speed has greatly improved. The anti virus auto updates every 2 or 3 hours The product promises hourly updates, but my system is simple. Kaspersky usually has something new hourly if I manually update. Norton and Zone Alarm auto updated daily.
A big positive was being able to update to Version 7.0 from 6.0 on my current license. The 6.0 interface was good; on 7.0 it looks even better. The product is easy to navigate and use, the user guide on the CD answered my questions, and the 6.0 software I bought at Comp USA had a written user guide. Hope it's still available in 7.0.
The only con I find is not a big one. Internet Explorer and Firefox run slower behind the Kaspersky firewall than behind the Windows firewall. Kaspersky's room for improvement will be designing the firewall to perform with less slowdown.
I still use Symantec products; Norton System Works (minus anti virus), Norton Ghost, even Partition Magic. But for internet security, the best by far is Kaspersky 7.0.
Nice Alternative December 9, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Whenever I buy software, I check Amazon user reviews for some indication of whether it will perform. Things like Internet security software are usually controversial. No matter how good, someone will still have a problem with it. I've used both Norton and Trend-Micro. Both do the job, but I found Norton to use way too much in the way of resources. Trend-Micro has worked well on a Dell notebook, but I was looking for a single source that I could use on all of my computers. Given the reasonably large pool of positive reviews, and the Amazon rebate making the software essentially free, I decided to give it a try. So far, no regrets. I've loaded and configured a desktop and notebook with no problems whatsoever. The user interface is intuitive and clear for anyone with any experience with this type of software. It is a full protection suite and there are some features you may or may not use, so go through the configuration settings and make sure you don't have other active software doing the same job. System response with firewall and anti-virus / spyware is fine (Dimension 4600 with 1GB RAM / one year old XPS140). If you're looking for an alternative to the more well-known names, think about giving this one a try.
Shut down my soho! December 8, 2007 9 out of 14 found this review helpful
This item shut down my home network and believe me when i say i'm a simple guy. If it's not simple enough out the box to work, it's not worth it and this product is one of them.
I gave this item a try based on the words this guy was saying about this new product he had. It was getting top spots in the computer mags and everything; the comp mags are dead wrong. When i installed this piece of crap, i'd noticed that i was having network problems. My computers weren't seeing each other in the "workgroup" window, and kaspersky's "so-called" zoning window is no help at all and it's hard to configure, not to mention confusing. Why couldn't it be simple like like Norton's Internet Security. Well anyway... i did some troubleshooting and my last resort was to uninstall the crapware. When i did that, i've noticed my computers can see each other (again).
To make a long story short, today was a computer show and i picked up Norton's I.S.. After installation, it saw the computers right away automatically, so i didn't have to do any zoning configurations.
Kaspersky, you did see everything and wiped them right out, but when you knocked out my beautiful network that i worked so hard to get in the first place and then have the nerve to further send my expectations down the hole by having this (crappy) zoning config; well you just asked for it, one star for you mister. Norton's may not work as well, but it's definitely network friendly. YOU'RE NOT WORTH THE HEADACHE!
