Danger, Danger Will Robinson! March 5, 2008 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
Trend Micro Internet Security Pro (2008 Edition, Including Builds 16.0, 16.05, and 16.1) is dangerous! Potential Buyers: Beware!
I'd been a Norton Internet Security user for years, and while it was slow, I had few problems with it conflicting other software. When I saw the high ratings for Trend Micro in Consumer Reports, I thought I'd give it a try rather than upgrade to Norton IS 2008.
I bought Trend Micro Internet Security Pro from Amazon, and installed it from the CD-ROM the day it arrived. Instantly, my keyboard stoped functioning, followed by cryptic warnings that the master controller for everything Trend Micro had encountered an error. I also noted that my Mozy Home Backup quit working too.
Shutting off the Trend Micro Transaction Protector seemed to solve the keyboarding problem (that took about 4 reboots to figure out). The other errors kept coming.
Trend Micro got back to me fast, with worthless advice. First, I was to un-install and then re-install from the original CD-ROM. That did not work. Next, I was to un-install and then download and install an "updated" version (16.0) from a link provided by TM Help. That did not work. I replied that the problem was still there, sent screen captures of all the error popups, and the next TM Help person told me I'd have to do it all again! I'm going back to Norton Internet Security!
Worthless March 3, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I installed this product on a PC infected with the MIRAR virus. I ran a full system scan (7+ hours) and the virus scanner failed to remove the virus. What a waste of time and money.
I won't buy any more of their products.
STINKS - NO FIREWAL - 2 REINSTALLS February 23, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I uninstalled 2007 suite and re-installed this program twice now and it won't activate the firewall like i had last time. can't auto fix within program - tried to do all the fixes from info, online and tech site! i will just use the Windows XP firewall now - not going to pull my hair out with MicroTrend's poor tech support and no responses! If it installs fine and no problems, you are ok - BUT (and a BIG BUT at that) IF you need their help, U R SCREWED! I should have known better from all i have read lately!!! I will ride this out and eventually buy another program! if anyone has this problem or knows a fix, please contact me at waynejperry at yahoo, as i am at a loss and do not have time to fart around with their buggy software and poor tech support - i think they have dropped the ball over the last few years and am going to research other options! so much for progress and improvements - they seem to just want the money and not accept accountability for their glitches on installs! think twice before doing a fresh install - they just want you to upgrade by paying their annual fees - i think they have a wall set to stop people from re-buying the program cheaper and uninstalling old to install the new! my firewall was working just fine in the 2007 version, so there should be no problem now as i followed advice for a proper install of this PRO 2008 version - something stinks here and i may just forget them on my end, too!
Don't believe all the negatives! February 22, 2008 8 out of 10 found this review helpful
I've been using Trend Micro for over 3 years, first on XP and now Vista, with absolutely NO problems whatsoever. Their installation is flawless if you FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS, and I've never had a problem with tech support -- they answer by e-mail within hours. Internet filtering with ANY software is always a bit daunting, as some prefer to see all the web's warts while I like to not even be bothered by all the garbage posing as interesting. The daily downloads aren't a problem here -- a window appears, I minimize it whilst working, it takes care of business and closes itself; if only other aspects of my daily life were so easy! I'm getting ready to re-up with the 2008 version and expect the same good experience. I had nothing but trouble previously with good old Symantec and Trend Micro has them beat. The only reason I don't give 5 stars is the upgrade price which could be a little lower.
Worst software you will ever own February 21, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is perhaps the worst software I have ever purchased. It WILL negatively affect your computer if you are running VISTA. They have zero customer service. I tried to reach them for 4 days ( chat, email, phone). DO yourself a favor and just run AVG free and spybot free.
