5 out of 5 stars I think Trend Micro has a nice product here   September 29, 2007

(This is the same review I posted for Trend Micro Internet Security 2008, since that's basically the same product as the Trend Micro Internet Security Pro 2008, minus a few bells and whistles. I am posting it in both places because I see the review prior to this one was posted for both products also, and I don't think that reviewer gave the product a fair shake, as I expand upon below.)

I haven't bought this product yet, but I have just downloaded and installed the free 30-day trial version Of Trend Micro Internet Security Pro 2008 and am VERY pleased with it so far. Running Vista, I have had problems with some security products in the past (including Trend Micro) but it appears they have now corrected those problems with this newly-released product.

Frankly, the review immediately prior to mine seems dubious. He submitted reviews for TWO Trend Micro products, claims he purchased them both on the same day, and submitted identical (and very negative!) reviews for both products! Why would he buy a second product from the same company if he was so disappointed with the first one?? He panned both Trend Micro Internet Security 2008 AND Trend Micro Internet Security Pro 2008. I smell a fish.

What I found was that the free 30-day trial version of Trend Micro Internet Security Pro 2008 installed flawlessly and has a VERY clear user interface. It detected and removed numerous spy cookies. It scanned my files quickly and found no viruses. No surprise there because I had been running a competitor's product for the past month, which kept my PC clean. I've been evaluating several competing security suites for my new Vista system until I decide which one I want to purchase. ZoneAlarm seemed to work well, as did Bitware. My impression is that the Trend Micro Pro is the most complete of the three, and has the clearest user interface. All three cost about the same. I'll give the Trend Micro another week or so of use and then make my purchase, which at this point I think will be the Trend Micro, probably not the "Pro" version but instead the simpler Trend Micro Internet Security 2008 version. It lacks a few of the features of the "Pro", but they're not features I'm apt to use and it costs about $20 less.

Based on my use so far, I really don't have any idea what the prior reviewer is talking about. If you go to the Trend Micro website, there's a link, in plain view, right on the order page which allows you to select whatever renew option you desire - automatic or not - as well as allowing you to select either 1 year, 2 year, or 3 year. And it clearly says "3 user" also, not "1 user" as he claimed. Frankly, his review sounds like sour grapes. Maybe he works for a competing security product? Else why would he submit two identical reviews for two different products from the same vendor, and both reviews claim that he dislikes that vendor intensely???

I don't work for Trend Micro (although I have used their product in the past when I had XP and was pleased with it) nor do I work for any other software security company. I'm just your typical PC user, trying to find a good product for my Vista system. I encourage others to try the free Trend Micro trial products (they offer several versions to pick from) for themselves. But as I said earlier, my impression is that it's now the best of the lot, and I have tried Bitware, Microsoft's suite (I forget what they called it but it was "Onestop" or "TotalCare" or something like that), Norton's version for Vista, and ZoneAlarm, so I have a pretty good basis for comparison.

Don't tell me what I can have on my computer. Instead you find a way to make your software work right in my PC! Don't tell me you can't make it work because Symantec made it work with their Norton 2008 Internet Security.
Explanation:
Trend Micro Internet Security 2008 searched, detected, and wanted to remove Webroot Spy Sweeper to start the installation. There are only two choices, stop the installation or give Trend Micro Internet Security 2008 permission to remove Webroot Spy Sweeper in order to begin installation. Spy Sweeper has been around for many, many, years. If you are Trend Micro, and you know enough about Spy Sweeper to actually write the installation codes to go and look for it and remove it, then you should have spent that time instead on figuring out how to make your software work with Spy Sweeper, period! Trend Micro has been around long enough to know better. AND, Spy Sweeper is not a no name brand new software from a small third party software maker. TREND MICRO MAKE IT WORK!

#2.
I decided not to wait to buy the Retail CD version of the Trend Micro Internet Security 2008 from Amazon because it wasn't going to be available for shipping until October 9-12, 2007. Instead on September 27th I went directly to Trend Micro and purchased it directly from Trend Micro as a download. The product description says 3-user license. I clicked and purchased. When the process was complete Trend Micro thanked me for purchasing a 1-user license. Try it out for yourself by going to the Trend Micro website and look at the product information for Internet Security 2008. It say that it is licensed for 3 computers. I have a desktop and a laptop. When I finished buying it, the confirmation said 1-user license! That is not honest.

If you have a quality product, you don't have to force me into "autoRenew". I will come back on my own and renew my subscription in 12 months.
Details:
When you purchase the download version of Trend Micro Internet Security 2008 directly from Trend Micro you must be carefull. There is a little box next to the item in your shopping cart that you must change. THEIR DEFAULT MODE IS PURCHAE FOR ONE YEAR WITH AUTO-RENEW. That means they are trying to make you stay or you will have to take additonal steps to later on opt out. This is not like Hotel California that you can check out but never leave.

I acutally paid attention. If you pay close attention, in your shopping cart you can change the default 1-year autoRenew to 1-year without autoRenew. I chose one year without autoRenew. I even got a print screen of my shopping cart that showed one year without autoRenew. When the purchase was complete, the confirmation said that I had purchased a one-year =>with<= autoRenew, 1-user license, of the Trend Micro Internet Security 2008. That is not honest.

#2 and #3 Combined
Combining #2 and #3 shows that this company is either unethical, or they send out confirmation that is not accurate matching to what was purchased. Trend Micro has been around for many years. Neither two reasons hold water. You can't use deceit (item#2 & item#3) and you been in business long enough to send out correct confirmations.

Referencing to items#2 and #3 when I purchased the product directly from the software maker and they bait & switched one user for three user and sold autoRenew when I purchased without autoRenew, then I can not trust Trend Micro. If I can't trust the actual maker of the product (Trend Micro), WHY WOULD I TRUST TO PURCHASE IT FROM DISTRIBUTOR/RESELLER LIKE AMAZON????

BAD BUSINESS PRACTICE:
If you are an honest seller, you don't give 1-year autoRenew as default and make it hard to see to notice to make the changes. These are your choices: 1-year with autoRenew(default), 2-year with autoRenew, 3-year with autoRenew, 1-year without autoRenew, 2-year without autoRenew, and 3-year without autoRenew.
DON'T GIVE ME 1-YEAR AUTORENEW AS DEFUALT. Give me six choices out in the open and let me see it and click on the one I like to purchase! I picked the one I liked (I have a printscreen of it) and they still sold me 1-year autoRenew!!! THAT'S NOT RIGHT!

ANOTHER BAD BUSINESS PRACTICE:
Go to Trend Micro and work your way through to the part on what would you have to do to cancel your order. On credit card purchases the first day is the ONLY time you can cancel your order. AND you can only request it as a web based Email request in the Trend Micro site. They don't give you an Email address so that you can use your own Email account to send out the cancellation Email request so there is time and date stamp proof that you made the refund request in time on the first day!

ANOTHER BAD BUSINESS PRACTICE:
If you uninstall the Trend Micro Internet Security 2008 for ANY reason, you will NEVER be able to install that software on that PC again!!!! Mr or Mrs Trend Micro, why do you care? It is non of your business! I bought and paid for that software. I gave you full price for it! I should be able to install and uninstall and install it back as many times as I want on my PC. That software is licensed to me for one year!!! I should be able to take it out and put it back in my PC as many times as I want as long as I do it on my own PC!!!! I paid full price for this right.

Alternate:
After my problems as you read above, I went to Symantec and purchased Norton Intrnet Security 2008 instead. I paid for 3-user (PC) license and I got 3-user license. It said it clearly (3-user) in confirmation. AND I didn't have the autoRenew problem. AND it installed 100% correctly without making me uninstall Webroot Spy Sweeper. Norton Internet Security 2008 peacefully got along with Spy Sweeper and didn't tell me what other software I can or cannot have on my PC unlike Trend Micro Internet Security 2008!!

I am not a sales person, I am not in any way related to the software industry or computers, Trend Micro, or Symantec, or Amazon. I am not a computer geek. I am just like you. I want to get what I pay for, I like honestly, and I value quality and integrity.

Trend Micro, as a company you have failed me! AND I have chosen to take my business to Symantec.
