1 out of 5 stars Don't Waste Your Time For A G4 PowerBook! It's Rubbish   October 10, 2007

I purchased this to help keep my brand new Powerbook G4 1.67 MHz w/ max (2 GB) memory running at optimum ability. After about 10 screen freezes I contacted ALSOFT tech dept. After going back and forth trying the basic menial tasks they use from their scripts, I made some screen shots and sent them along with another request for help. They "thanked me" for the screen shots, and then said their product does not work with my new laptop. The only way to make it work was to boot my laptop up from another machine and then it would probably work. NO REFUNDS. BUYER BEWARE! I'm stuck with a disk I can hang from my car's mirror. It's good for nothing if it doesn't work on something that it says it will on the box. Not on a G4 PowerBook. I would trust this company more if it offered a refund, but I was told no refunds. Hmmmmm.

1 out of 5 stars Bad experience, don't buy!   September 17, 2007

0/10. Very bad experience with this program. Won't even recognize my hard drive. Tried another program successfully (Boomerang). Got all my data back and could even reformat the hard drive.
The distributor would not even consider reimbursing me, claiming that the package was open. They have to explain me how to test their program without opening up the package since they don't allow testing with a demo version. Something I could do with Boomerang and it worked.

Won't buy from them anymore.

5 out of 5 stars LIFE SAVER 100% LIFE SAVER!!! Eighteen and 1/2 Mac Mice!!   July 11, 2007

Oh yeah!
Life is good again!
I spent all last night worrying about a disk that Tech Tool 4 screwed up so bad that it would not show up on my desktop. I spent most of the day trying to retrieve the disk with no success. I downloaded Disk Warrior and within three minutes I was back up. Simply amazing! I am now an evangelist for the product and will use it monthly to rid my system crashes with my complex system setup. I even got the disk icon back!
BUY IT-USE IT-LOVE THE PEACE OF MIND!! Thanks Alsoft! I love you!

After spending an afternoon with an AAPL tech and failing to resolve repeated crashes, he suggested DiskWarrior. So glad he did! Not only are there no more crashes but iMac running as fast as it did out of the box 2+ years ago!!

3 out of 5 stars Data Rescue 2   June 15, 2007

If you just want to recover data -- and not repair the damaged disc -- Prosoft's Data Rescue 2 works great. You do need a separate hard disc - like a LaCie - to recover the data to. If you haven't backed up, this seems a good way of dealing with it, as you don't run the risk of losing anything, as nothing is being rebuilt during the process. You can get your files back and then work out how to save the drive later, perhaps with Disk Warrior. It worked for me.
