Quicken no longer supports my bank's data format?! May 24, 2006 23 out of 27 found this review helpful
It seems Intuit recently decided to stop supporting the QIF data format in order to promote uptake of the newer OFX format. Unfortunately, a significant number of financial institutions still use the QIF format (and only this format), including my company's corporate credit card.
Most frustratingly, Quickens website claims that my financial institution (Citi Cards) supports OFX ... if only someone had told the Diners Club MasterCard division.
Since I can't exactly change my corporate credit card, and I am not willing to manually enter each transaction, this software isn't all that useful to me.
Looks like I'm going to have to use Microsoft Money.
Poor Customer Relations Mar a Good Product May 2, 2006 39 out of 42 found this review helpful
The technical professionals who create the Quicken program are to be praised for their ongoing innovation and desire to help customers manage their finances effectively and efficiently. Quicken is a very good program.
Unfortunately, Intuit, the parent company of Quicken, tends to treat its customers as if we are trusting tourists in a foreign land who don't realize we are in the presence of very skilled pick pocketers. Turn your back and Intuit will snatch more of your cash, whether it's for an unnecessary upgrade, a support call, or an add-on service you really don't need.
Beware signing up for Quicken Bill Pay. The screen that keeps popping up encouraging you to sign up with a BillPay free trial can be confused with a registration screen. For that and other reasons, it's not unusual for people to inadvertently sign up for BillPay twice or even three times.
Does Intuit contact you given that they are billing the same person two or three times for the same product? No. When you discover the error and then ask Intuit for a refund or to credit your account for the double (or triple) payments, they point to the legal fine print, which of course their attorneys have crafted in such a way to protect Intuit from any legal challenges to their extra revenue scheme.
If I didn't already have a lot of data on Quicken I would look at Microsoft Money. But then that company isn't exactly known for stellar customer service either. I guess that's one of the problems with a monopoly (or duopoly in this case): They don't have to provide good customer service because they control so much of the market for their products.
Quicken Deluxe 2006 April 20, 2006 23 out of 26 found this review helpful
I was forced to upgrade from Quicken 2003 by Intuit's sunset policy. I can't say that I am happy about this. I found Quicken 2003 to work for me just fine. I will say that there are some noticable improvements in Quicken 2006, but I expected even more for three years of development and my extra costs in upgrading.
MAKES MATH ERRORS! April 13, 2006 39 out of 45 found this review helpful
I previously gave this quicken 2 stars, but now i am downgrading to 1. my balances in quicken sometimes dont match up with the ones on line and after thinking myself crazy and manually adding and readding, and inserting various "mystery" placeholder entries, i find that quicken actually makes math errors! if there is one thing that you do not want in a computer program (especially a financial one)and if there is one thing that even a primitive computer programmer should be able to do is write software that adds and subtracts correctly! i hope they fix this and make available the fixes on line.
Pretty good program March 23, 2006 14 out of 19 found this review helpful
I liked the previous versions better. They were easier to use and understand. This version is hard to get the reports that I need and want. All in all, it's OK but they should have left it alone.
