| Customer Reviews:
Better than before, but not perfect May 3, 2007 11 out of 12 found this review helpful
I used to use Quicken Deluxe 2003 and had serious stability issues in Windows 98. I upgraded to WinXP and found that it was even worse. For some reason I bought Deluxe 2007 and have actually seen quite a few improvements in the way the software runs. It's much faster (at least on my machine) and has very nice features which are new to me. The calendar features and automatic online updates are really nice.
The Customer Invoices (business end of the software) are basically a joke and reconciliation is a pain in the neck! One thing that is so stupid is that to enter a payment received on an invoice, you MUST make a deposit into an account in Quicken. The problem is that unless you make a single deposit at your bank for each invoice you got paid on, it's impossible to accurately reconcile the bank statements. You also can't seem to enter a partial payment on an invoice, or an overpayment. And third in the stupid ideas category, you cannot print certain reports on customers and invoices, yet you can view them in a nice little pop up box. How hard is it to put a "print" button?!
All in all, it's not perfect, but it's functional and very handy for personal finance management. For running the finances of a business it's pretty useless, even a tiny business like mine.
It works. April 14, 2007 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
-Like the one-step update: uploads 401K detail within transactions that Hewitt doesn't provide on their site, uploads credit card and banking info. I use this frequently. -Like the 'Net Worth' Center, and how the sections are organized. -Like the 'Planning' Center. -Like that I was able to download my turbotax file for 2007 tax year for 2008 use.
-It's enabled me to have low-stress, very organized, time-efficient way of managing my personal finances. It's a robust solution that, for a semi-novice like me, is occasionally complex - but I manage. At a glance, it seems more robust than MS Money.
-Dislike the barrage of obvious/blatant steering to use their other products/services.
Overall, glad I purchased it for 69 at Sam's - it exceeded my expectations. (I run a Pentium 4, 2.8GHz, w2G ram for those - perhaps relevant to those whose complaints take aim at memory-challenging fancy visuals) I've had no problem whatsoever on that front.
Advertising March 13, 2007 26 out of 28 found this review helpful
Quicken software continues to contain prominent advertising for Intuit products and services. In my opinion, it is fine to offer additional services to customers, but give the customer the opportunity to say "no thanks" and then leave them alone so they can be productive with the software. Forever pestering a paid customer with advertising for the same products and services is not a good idea. Advertising takes up space in the user interface and is a distraction that reduces productivity.
Good Program March 12, 2007 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
This program is dependable and adequate within the limits that it is avertised to do. For instance, it won't keep track of inventory, since it was not designed to do so.
Best Version Yet March 5, 2007 14 out of 17 found this review helpful
It installed without any problems. It runs without any problems. I am very happy with it.
I am a convert from Microsoft Money. I am self employed and have one employee. My wife is also self-employed. We have twenty different financial accounts (investment accounts, retirement accounts, checking accounts, savings accounts, a mortgage, a home equity line of credit and credit cards). We often pay business expenses with our personal credit card, as the credit card gives us frequent flyer miles for every purchase. Quicken 2007 Home and Business allows us to do our personal accounting and business accounting all in one program, which makes it much easier.
The one step update (automatic downloading of our transactions and balances from financial institutions) works with 17 of our 20 accounts. Downloading data from the other 3 accounts requires some manual steps, but is still fairly painless.
I like the online backup feature. It is inexpensive (you pay a small annual charge) and easy to use.
I am not very impressed with the investment analysis features, although I have not yet fully explored them. I would like to be able to compute realized and unrealized annualized rates of return for individual positions or groups of positions, and it doesn't seem like I can do that in this program.
