I've bought Quicken 2005, but will not upgrade until May or June when my bank finally gets OFX functionality implemented.
In the meantime, I tried running the Online Update once after the Sunset date. They warned me that the online downloads would no longer work. They didn't say that it was because they would sabotage my Quicken 2002 so that it won't run at all! Now the program hangs when I try to start it, and I can't use Quicken at all.
This company is an unscrupulous as they come. I can't wait to see how they'll sabotage Quicken 2005 when they decide to sunset it.

I am not a fan of Intuit, and I bought this product only because their sunset policy disabled features I used in Quicken 2002. My view has been that the high point of Quicken was reached in 1999, and the next several versions were increasingly bloated and more difficult to use. I resolved not to go beyond 2002 until I had no choice. I installed the 2005 version with great trepidation, but much to my surprise it seems to work just fine. It is a little faster than the 2002 version and has some nice features. Ads are less of a problem than in the 2002 version. I think some of the low marks given by others are because they are pushing this product pretty hard. I don't disagree with their comments, but for people who use Quicken without asking for signficant import/export activities it should work just fine. I have had no problem with bank and credit card downloads. My two cents.

I cannot evaluate the product because, like most commentators on this product, I can't use it since it doesn't support QIF files. My 2004 TURBO TAX software program prompted me to upgrade to QUICKEN 2005. I accepted the offer. It uninstalled my 2003 QUICKEN product, then prompted me for payment. I came to AMAZON.COM instead. I purchased it, in spite of the reviews (can't locate my old QUICKEN 2003 compact disk). I'm stuck! I left feedback with INTUIT. I'm hoping to be able to use the 2005 product sometime in the near future, preferably in 2005. I'm waiting; I'm "mad."

Here is the feedback I sent Intuit:
Intuit's discontinuation of the old Quicken versions (2000, 2001, 2002) is completely uncalled for. It is clear sign of your corporate greed and attempt to force your loyal customers to upgrade to vastly inferior Quicken 2004 and 2005. I have been Quicken customer since 1998, however, your continuous policy of ignoring your customers and trying to milk them for upgrades is going to force me to switch to alternative products. Your company is not a monopoly in personal finance software and you should consider making your customers happy.
I upgraded to Quicken 2004 due to your policies. I am very dissatisfied with it. The moment when Quicken 2004 is discontinued, I am switching to your competition. Have a nice day.
If you only import OFX, at least enable OFX export April 6, 2005

While I'm just as irked as everyone else about Intuit's attempt at forcing me to upgrade, the main thing keeping me from upgrading is their lack of an export feature for OFX. I fully agree with Intuit that the QIF format should be retired-- QIF is an awful format with lots of ambiguous field descriptions. This makes it nearly impossible to parse and/or generate and leads to strange import problems. OFX fixes all these issues.
However, according to Quicken pre-sales support, Quicken 2005 only exports to QIF format. So how am I supposed to read these files back in? Again, according to the support folks, I can't. I use the export/import feature to periodically remove errors that creep into my admittedly very complex Quicken data files. I would also like to use the OFX file format for some detailed external reporting, since as mentioned before QIF is absolutely terrible to parse.
Microsoft Money 2005 doesn't export to OFX, either.
The first one to put in an OFX export gets my upgrade.
