 Bloated, slow and counter intuitive. April 25, 2008

It does do the basics well enough and plays well with the rest of Microsoft's products. However, save yourself a lot of stress and stay away from this. Installation is a pain, it's extremely difficult to share between computers and don't get me started on the constant need to reenter information.
Office Accounting Express is available from Microsoft as a free download. It has a lot of similar features and even it is more than my family (read: not buisnesses) needs.

As of this writing, I have entered the same company data 4 times. Yes, I made back-ups. Yes, I tried to restore them. Yes, all of my data was gone. Went through the knowledge base and it seems quite a few folks are having the same problems. As mentioned in an earlier review, customer service consists of a "call-back". Just got one, and his software had crashed so he couldn't help me at the moment...will call back later. I'll hold my breath for that one!
The software offers very interesting features (EBay / PayPal integration) and includes everything (plus a great deal more) needed to run a small business. Personally, I just can't get it to work properly. Am glad I am just starting up - the switch will be quite simple and I'm only out about $140.00 - - - OUCH!

This is typical Microsoft software. It is easy to install and as most operating systems are Microsoft it integrates very well with other programs like Excel, Powerpoint, Word as well as other Microsoft programs. On install the program allows for quick first time Company setup or importing data from existing business files. The program loads SQL server 2005 as well as SQL Native client to assist in the database management. Some understanding of SQL would be helpful but you don't need to be a SQL DBA to operate this program. All said this is a nice packaged Office Accounting program. There are a few things to keep in mind. The program integrates connections to online service providers, like EBay, Credit services, PayPal, Check and Payroll services that require monthly enrollment fees. The nice thing is that you can tailor subscriptions to fit the business' needs. A nice complete small business solution.

This software is very large in size and takes up too much space on my already crowded system. I had used QuickBooks earlier and found the Office Accounting Professional to have some good features but overall it is cumbersome, slow and not very intuitive in some aspects.
I think it is a good solution for a home office but is not robust enough for small business use. However, the integration with MS Office is good and helps transport some of the data more easily. However on the negative side most financial institutions offer better integration and data-porting with Quickbooks so dumping data into MS Accounting Professional becomes that much more difficult.

I'm not a numbers person. However, everybody has to keep track of bills and such, and with being a small business owner, I had extra challenges to work with. So I jumped at a chance to give this program a shot. I'm glad I did.
I think the thing I like about it most is the layout. I know some people are not so impressed, but being someone who took to Office 2007 like a duck to water, I'm two for two on MS's newer programs. I found it easy to navigate, and had little trouble figuring out where everything's supposed to be. And, as with Office, I like the bells and whistles--they make things easier, at least for me.
I didn't notice much of a problem with things loading, though that may be because I have a newer computer. There are still some features I haven't used yet (including ones that cost extra) but so far, so good!
