Train Simulator March 23, 2008 I found the program to be delightful to operate. I have learned more about trains than I assumed to know! Very good scenery!

Train Simulator (Jewel Case)
This software is both a serious train and railroad simulator and a fun-to-play scenerio-based game, depending on how you choose to use it. It is very old now, but is currently still the best that is available due to it's modability and versitility, and the wealth of third-party ad-ons, both payware and freeware, available for it.
I have rated it 4 stars even though the graphics are quite ugly by todays standards, and it could definately use a serious update. The reason I have rated it so highly is that it is so customizable, and you can easily make a whole new and MUCH improved product out of it by adding content readily available from many sources. You can even create your own content, including new train and scenic object models, new play or sim scenerios, and even new routes or "worlds". So much beautiful freeware is available for it that you need never spend another cent on it even while upgrading it tremendously. But I highly recomend that you take a good look at some of the wonderful and stunning pay-ware content available at very reasonable prices from a number of sources.
One thing, if you have an old version, you MUST download the upgrade from Microsoft, or you won't have nearly as pleasant of an experience.
As far as bang for the buck goes, this piece of software is nearly impossible to beat, especially if you are a rail fan and/or like to play with or model trains and railroads.
Just buy it, for pete's sake. If you are even interested enough to be looking, then it will be well worth the paltry $10.00 they are now asking for it.
Great Fun !!!!! November 22, 2007 makes you feel like you are driving a real deisel...many types of trains to choose from.....
It's Good...but... August 31, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This simulator is good, providing you only want to ride and deal with a few trains only. It lacks of sense and proper means to build your own lines or to create a train of your own. Also, is very difficult to find out how you can improve or create new trains. I will only recommend this game for starters in the train simulation "business".Otherwise, in my opinion, Trainz Railroad Simulator 2006, from AURAN ,is probably the best in its class.
Lacks simplified documentation, but is worth the time and effort August 23, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this sim at the same time I bought MS's train sim, I immediately took a shine to this one, the visual sim is great and it gives you an easy ride and run interface. It lacks clear and concise documentation; but it is well worth the effort to ferret out what you need and increase your knowledge of the sim. The effort you make is directly proportional to your enjoyment and just plain fun. I ESPECIALLY LIKE BLOWING THE HORN AND RINGING THE BELLS! whoooooooooooo! whoooooooooooo! ALL ABOARD!
