Sluggish at first, but then... I'M ADDICTED! June 27, 2006 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
I'm a little late into the game- I know. But I bought this game a few months ago and had to update my G4 iMac with the newest OS and all that.. blah blah blah. So the game started off lagging. I couldn't bare it! It took a million years for anything to happen. But then- I don't know- the miracles of modern technology- I set it aside for awhile and then just put it back in to see if I might want to sell it or something and BAM! it runs as smooth as clock work. My suggestions to anyone considering buying it are there:
1. Make sure you have OS 10.4 and enough memory, you should anyways- I mean- this is Apple we are talking about!
2. Start off on the smallest neighborhood and give it time.
3. Do NOT run anything else while the game is going.
4. if you are still having problems with lag- well- you're screwed.
As far as the game goes- it's brilliant! You can build your world from the ground up, or you can start in the middle of an interesting story. And then- you're God. Sure the little things get boring- cleaning up after the alien baby, making sure to go to work on time. I would kill to be able to leave a Sim alone and they would drop what they are doing and go to work when they need to. It is that fine line that Sims plays- I have to remember to go to work everyday in the real world and so it is no fun in the Simworld; but when you've fulfilled your Sim's goal to make new friends- well... it almost feels better than REALLY making new friends. Plus the best part is you can screw anything up you want, blow money on whatever you want, screw with these people and places and undo do it all in a few clicks. TONS OF FUN!!
It's the best game ever! May 14, 2006 2 out of 10 found this review helpful
Anyone who doesn't have this game has to get it NOW! It's the best!
Universal Binary May 5, 2006 15 out of 17 found this review helpful
By applying the free Universal Binary patch from Aspyr's website, you can now play Sims 2 on Intel Macs without Rosetta slowdown. Two caveats: at the time of writing, included Body Shop application is not yet Universal Binary and neither are any Expansion Packs. That said, this patch made the game fly on my 20" iMac (2.0 GHz Core Duo, 2 GB RAM, and 128 MB ATI X1600). I've tried two settings, a default setting at 800x600 with mostly medium details and fully maxed out 1680x1050 with highest details. Although zooming and panning are not quite fluid (i.e., occasionally becomes unresponsive), the game is imminently playable at the highest setting. At the default setting, the game runs VERY FAST. I doubt you will need full 2 GB RAM to enjoy (although you will want 1 GB minimum), as I run other applications in the background without ill effect.
As for the game itself, it's very addictive. If you liked the original Sims, you will probably love this one. At the surface, it has not changed dramatically. Although Sims are now extremely customizable, the basic play system behind the game remains mostly the same. Except for aging. Sims now age from infant, child, teenger, adult, to elder. And any newborn will genetically inherit traits (both physical and personality) from its parents. If aging is not your thing, you can turn it off using documented cheat code (and turn it back on when you feel like it). Another change involves career. Sims no longer have to work every single day -- most careers have 5-day-a-week schedule, leaving you some time to develop skills and friendships. With higher level positions, you can even accrue vacations. There are many other small changes, all adding up to fun timeless experience.

This is an awesome game, my last review said that i couldn't get it to work but now i can and it is awesome. It is so much better then the origanal sims i love the fact that the sims have momories now. I also like the supirior graphics. i am runing it on a g4 mac mini with 64mb of vid ram and it is not choppy at all. If it doesn't work for you, try changing the disk permision, that is what my dad did, and now it works!
Sims 2 for Mac March 21, 2006 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
The Sims 2 for Mac has all the same features as the original, but with the ability to enjoy the game on Macintosh. Happy days!
Its a great game for any level player; I personally enjoy playing for sake of building homes and desgining stores, but it still has the comulsive option, for those who thrive on playing God, to create families.
With significantly improved graphics compared to the original sims, this game has 360 degree game view and the luxury of customising and creating sims and family trees. New furnitures, objects and building options appear, as does the exciting aspirations aspect. Pick and aspiratiuon for your Sim and help them accomplish their dreams! As they do so, so they earn rewards and skills.
I originaly owned the pc version and thoroughly enjoyed it. Then after merrily converting to the world of apple mac and discovering delghts here previously unknown to me, I decided to get it again. I play on an i-book G4. Though it runs slower than on a PC or other such full size computer, it is still definately playable and operates well. No doubt heftier macs with greater hard-drives will experience no problems at all.
A definate thumbs up for this colourful and addictive game. A must have methinks!
